They have a bar, restaurant and accommodation. The location is perfect as it's just in the main street of Ella, close to everything. The dorm and the private rooms are simple but have lockers, private bathrooms and are very clean. The staff is extremely nice and caring. The breakfast was huge and included in the price. Overall, considering the cheap price (one bed in the dorm was 5.50€) it was one of the best hostels I stayed in over my entire trip. The bar is also cool, it's not as fancy as the others but still cool, with a big terrace and draft beer for 650 rupees, almost half price than the others in the surroundings. I cannot understand why the others are full and this is not. Come here, definitely!
We had a fantastic lunch with great drinks and service. Food was really good value. Shajud was a really attentive and kind host who looked after us well.
We tried the restaurant. The service was pretty poor with the drinks arriving late. No one paid any attention to us and even when we wanted to order, we had to draw attention to ourselves from the waiting staff. The food (mixed fried rice and mixed noodles) was pretty average and the chicken koththu roti was poor (too much salt and tasted burnt). The worst was yet to come: our bill came to just under Rs. 26,500 and when we went up to pay, the staff said that they do not take payment by any card and only accept cash. This was a bit hard to believe given that, firstly, they never warned us it was cash only. Secondly, it was hard to believe given it's a pretty big establishment with restaurant, bar and hotel facilities. We actually had cash on us but we were a bit suspicious of the intentions of the staff there in asking for cash only. So after much ado, the staff member took us to the restaurant next door where we paid the amount by card and the manager of the restaurant next door told the staff member that he will give him the cash less 3% charged by the card company - we actually paid by a debit card (not credit card) and my debit card does not charge retailers 3% fees. Anyway, all in all, Udayanga was a bad experience which we will not be repeating. The only thing good going for it was the location which is right in the middle of Ella town.
Nice place… very quiet, which is strange given it so well located! One of the only places we have found in Sri Lanka that does draft beer, which is a definite plus point! Not sure about the food as we only had drinks, but we came back as we had fun first time!
Place was fine, but don't try foods from there its very unreasonable considering the price of each potion and the taste. If you are going to Ella use this place but dont try to take food from them.
Udayanga pub Ceylon it’s situated in Ella main road. There have rooms for guest. Hostel facilities also there. Clean rooms. Comfortable bed. Hostel very cheap rate. They give a breakfast too. Ac non Ac and with out fan rooms also there. Workers are friendly and good. They adjustable . We can stay here for cheap rates and good rooms.
As I couldn't find any beer shop in Ella, it was recommended by some locals to visit this pub. Two days beer was like 500 rupees, but suddenly it grew up to 600 rupees, just some hours after the purchase. Totally random pricing! The bar itself is very dark and inconvenient. Actually, there are more cosy places in Ella to sit and drink.
Rip off tourist trap. It is a liquor store with government licence and fixed price but they do charge foreigners twice or more pretty randomly. Also dirty place and creepy people almost not able to walk anymore…
