This was the most memorable and exciting meal in my heavenly, gluttonous tour of Portugal. I wasn’t sure where else I would go outside of Lisbon/Porto, but once I was able to make a reservation, I planned a whole other leg to Évora. This restaurant alone is worth planning a trip to Évora. You absolutely have to make a reservation—I saw at least 40 people get turned away at the door while I was dining, with zero walk in availability. Each course was incredibly imaginative, incredibly executed, and opened my palate and perspective to food of the Alentejo. Come extremely hungry. I was traveling alone, and although some parts would have been split for the table (like bread), the amount of food is overwhelming. Just a single menu would have been enough for four. I would almost recommend one tasting menu for two, even if it means paying for two spots. The whole bill with two glasses of wine only came to 45 euros! The first bite (a bacon wrapped sausage) with shot-sized melon puree was glorious. There was an incredible pumpkin/cheese pastry, followed by course after course of very rich, intensely-flavored food. I loved getting to try both the oxtail and the pork, but I never could have finished both! I’m not one for wasting food, but this is a place where the meal bests you—I don’t think there is a humanly way to eat everything they bring! The family behind the restaurant is so wonderful—the father/son team were the servers, and the son was thrilled to show his late grandfather on the personalized bottle of house wine. They gave a very sweet handwritten postcard of the family as a souvenir of the experience. The hype is real, just go! We dined here a Friday night, and the food, ambience, service and drinks were magnificent. You feel, that this is a family establishment all the way through. There's stories to go with every bite, big smiles all around and warmth like in your own living room. Can't recommend this enough. We dined yesterday in a Michelin star restaurant in Lisbon. While it was excellent, Taberna beat it by far. Joao Dias, the host, is extremely pleasant, welcoming, and attentive. They serve an unannounced set menu. You get a 5 course meal but they don't tell you what you eat sometimes. Be ready to be amazed. Do inform them if you have any allergy in advance. The food is beyond amazing, from the very start to the very end. But don't dare to come as a vegetarian. The best local food in Portugal we have ever had. I would say it's a world hidden gem. Price is about 50 euros per person, including everything. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Amazing traditional place! The rules are simple: you don't choose what you eat and whoever has the yellow plate has to pay the bill. Very fun staff and lighthearted atmosphere. Very small space so make a reservation if possible. All good leftovers go back to the farm to make compost/feed animals! I give Quarta-feira 10 stars! If you are going anywhere near Evora, make a dinner reservation at this family-owned gem. The menu is fixed and so is the price: no need to order a thing, the owner Joao brings about 20 small plates to your table, about 5 courses in all. The food is Delicious, the service incredibly warm and genuine, and the tally at the end of the night was more than reasonable. Loved every bite; especially enjoyed the turnip soup, oxtail stew, and sheep's cheese baked in a flaky puff. Cannot recommend highly enough. We will be back! It is a unique "fusion" restaurant, not blending foods from different countries, but rather showcasing the evolution of a family-run Portuguese establishment across generations. With no menus or exceptions, it's truly worth a try. The staff treats you as their own family, ensuring a warm experience. Just a tip: consider skipping lunch if you plan to dine there; I'll definitely return when I'm around Évora. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Simply put, one of the best meals I've ever had - the place, the family made it so much better. They made it very special for my girlfriend and I and were extremely accommodating. I hope we can visit Evora again and we would be sure to stop in. Thank you Manuel and family. A must visit if you in Portugal! Traveled from Lisbon to Evora only to visit this family restaurant! No regrets and amazed w the delicious food and home-family ambient! Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €45–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Worth going to Evora just for this dining experience. There is no menu and the restaurant serves you a variety of dishes that they’ve put together. All the food was traditional Portuguese and tasted absolutely incredible and very fresh. The service and atmosphere were also a highlight. The only mistake we made was not fasting before eating here. Though we somehow still managed to squeeze in the dessert. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €40–45 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
I had read the hype about this place and was afraid they wouldn’t live up to it. My fears were quickly abated! Every dish was unique, fresh, and delicious. The wine pairing was perfect. And the service was exceptional! I would recommend to anyone who loves food and wine. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €50+
