Saw the “golden award winning” sign outside their window so I decided to give it a go. I ordered a potato top pie. The pie tasted stale, barely any meat but a lot of that thick jelly like gravy. Tried to force myself to finish it but couldn’t. Definitely not worth $7. I don’t know why you charge that much for a pie when surrounding bakeries charge less and they actually taste good.

Lovely owners, but their pies and sausage rolls have not kept up with the times. Unfortunately the heater didn't keep the sausage roll very warm at the bottom so the fat was starting to taste powdery at a cooler temperature. The pies are also quite gluggy. First time I didn't finish a pie! They have tough competition within a 1km radius and quite frankly for the same price I'd rather go to the others for higher quality pies.

Really nice vege pie, which had a nice creamy filling and vege quiche, which had nicely balanced egg and vegetable ratio that agree with my preferences. Pastry was nice and flakey as well.
It's a local bakery! Best thing on the menu appears to be the very consistent and kiwi pies, and they're reliable but up for stiff competition by nearby Howick stalwart Muzza's. Your preference will depend on your tastes; some flavours are better at one place, some at the other. I'll buy from either happily - this is a good local pie shop with a good but not gourmet range.

I am a big fan of the classic custard slice and i decided to stopped in the Stefan's bakery. I paid $5.50 for a double custard slice- which is actually a triple due to the 5 layers of pastry with 3 layers of custard. unfortunately, on this occasion what I got was not fit for the mantle of custard slice. I imagine that I received a slice from the back of the chiller as it was dry, the icing fell off like dry cement and the custard made an appearance on either end of the slice but disappeared in the middle. overall, not a good experience. if you are going to double down make sure the slice is right!! Bought a steak pie 2 days ago……sad decision gluey tasteless brown glug there was a fine strand of meat at the end…… very disappointing considering the competition within a small range…never again.
I ordered a bacon quiche - this was the worst item, pie, and a bacon egg roll. All 3 items were dry and horrible. The lady told me the total with 30.50 and charged my card $40.50 via payWave. Be careful
Worst ever pie, asked for a veg pie and got this pie full of creamy gumy stuff, took it back as I thought it was a mistake, the guy pulled it apart and found a bit of a mushroom and told me it's a vegetarian pie as it did not have meat. Never going back to Stefans Bakery in Howick. Was not offered money back and I did not ask for a refund.
Nice friendly people, but unfortunately all the food was a bit stodgy. We bought pies, sandwiches, a few deli treats and a frappe. The frappe was about 100ml of chocolate milk in a cup with ice and some powder sprinkled on top. The sandwiches were half filled with wads of butter, and only filled in the middle so it looks full when it’s cut (that sneaky old bakery trick). Pies were pretty average and lukewarm. The deli treats were the kind you eat half of before dropping in the bin. Also realised after we’d driven down the road that they overcharged us. One star for the average pie, one for service with a smile. Fine if that’s all you’re after, but leave the rest.
