Their beers are excellent with 10 different types which keep on changing. The brewers and staff are very passionate about their beers. The atmosphere is great. Kid and Pet friendly. They do sell Pizza which was also excellent. The beer and pizza are both quite pricey though. Price per person R 300–350 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Some of the best beer I’ve had in South Africa! The bartender had an obvious passion for beer and working at Soul Barrel. He was very generous with his time and allowed me to sample almost all the beer while giving me explanations of them. He then led us on a short brewery tour and gave us a bit of history about the building. Staff and beer both top level, highly recommend for anyone who is a beer lover to have an alternative to all the wineries! By the way there is an awesome place right next door that does pizza and has awesome wine as well! Something for everyone! Price per person R 500+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Excellent visit to this micro brewery just outside Franschhoek. Sampled a selection of beers on their brewery taster plate and had good food from the eatery nextdoor. The barman at the brewery was well versed in the beers and provided a comprehensive guide to each of the beers. All in all a great stop on our brewery tour day in the Winelands. Lovely craft brewery. Has very interesting variety and decent selection of beers. They try and use as much local South African ingredients as possible for their beers. They do have the core range, and various seasonal brews.

The best brewery in South Africa and the only one that reaches an international level. They have the courage to try new recipes with lots of hops... but the highlights are the sours! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Soul Barrel is situated on a multi-business premises with communal seating. This seems to work quite well as each little business caters for something else (coffee stall, pizza take out, wine bar, the brewery) and does not require the other shops to cater for everything. It is similar to an indoor market set up. There is a nice play area that is visible from all seating points and the area is pet (on a leash) friendly. The beer itself is good, but not exceptional. They have 10 options to choose from. I didn't quite understand the difference between most of them and what made it "American styled", but I quite enjoyed the cuvee style drink, regardless of whether it should be called that. The two servers (presumably bartenders) were very friendly and attentive. Price per person R 200–250 Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
