I have to say when it comes to birthday cakes or any occasion i like to get my cakes from Smith Bakeries. Truly speaking that is the only bakery item I have tried there. It is just so delicious, it is also one of the oldest bakeries in town. I just love their Champagne cake. It has two locations, but I usually go to the one on Ming, as it is close to my place. It is just on the opposite side of In Shape on Ming. It is inside the store of the gas station, it is very easy to miss.

Smith’s Bakery is a gem of a place in Bakersfield, truly amazing. Everything I’ve had from there for the 25 years I’ve been going there has been nothing but the best. But my God, are they overpriced. They raised their prices dramatically during the pandemic, which I understand to a point. But now they appear to be arbitrarily raising prices just because. And it happens in such a short amount of time that it’s kind of pitiful. For example, they raised the price of a box of their thumbprint cookies by $2 in ONE month. What justifies THAT much of a cost increase in such a short period of time?

The smiley cookies are to die for! The thumb print cookies I used to love eating growing up but upon revisit, they’re not as good as I remember. Although these cookies are a classic to Bakersfield, they’re becoming extremely overpriced and for that I had to knock down my rating by one star. $2.49 for smileys and $0.99 for thumb print cookies… not to mention the decorated holiday cookies, those are upwards of $3.49-4.49 a cookie… Smith’s should at least consider offering a discount for purchasing the dozen or even bigger bulk of cookies at a time!

They always have good fresh cookies and baked goods at this location. They are not the bakery, so when you make an order you need to be ready to pick it up at the appointed time. But if you live close to this location, you can order and pick up your cake, saving you a lot of driving time. They are friendly and have never gotten our orders incorrect. I personally like their happy face cookies. YUM!!!

Smith's Bakeries is the hidden gem of Bakersfield. They make the best cookies and cakes. The staff is nice. Highly recommend Smith's Bakersfield if you are craving something sweet!

Smith's Bakeries are a local landmark and join a very short list of must-visit historical businesses in Bakersfield. Their high quality and unique baked goods have kept my friends and family coming back through the years. From cakes to cookies to donuts; everything is amazing, especially their thumbprint cookies, my personal favorite. Expect to find great seasonal selections here if you need something for a holiday party.

I love Smith's bakery I'm from Los Angeles we don't have bakeries like this out there. Maybe that's a good thing because I would be as big as a house cuz I would be eating there everyday I love their pink champagne cake and cupcakes so every time we're out here visiting family I make it a point to stop. I recommend this place a hundred times over

Only 5 or six choices. When I mentioned what I wanted-plain white-I got the oddest look. I really wanted Vanilla bean which they did not have. Also no rainbow. The goods on display did not look or smell good so I declined a sample. It was in a wine shop so their most popular was a champagne cake. I hate champagne lol. I heard such great things about this place too.

Not the everyday type of cookie, but SOOOO good. Grab a couple dozen of these everytime I visit my hometown and they barely make it home. There are a few locations now and they are consistently good...the rainbows are my favorite (even though they all taste the same).
