I visited this location at 1:00 in the afternoon and was surprised at the selection of donuts they maintained. Usually when you walk in to a donut shop at 1:00, they're getting ready to close and all they have is bits and pieces of their worst sellers. I'd never eaten at Shipley's before so I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. They were so good that I sat down and ate seven of them at one sitting and then rolled around on the floor the rest of the day because I was stuffed. I just couldn't stop eating them.
The restaurant was clean and organized and ready for a rush at any time. This has quickly become my favorite donut shop in Denver.

Donuts were average at best, and the kolaches were pretty weak. But I’m also from Texas, so I have much higher standards for kolaches. Not surprised because this is just how Shipley’s are, but the guy at the front was awesome and with this place only being 10 minutes away, worth it to go back

What more to say: friendly, knowledgeable staff, good food—too many to choose from, of course. (And it’s maybe a little petty, but steer yourself here instead of Dunkin’)

Subpar at best..barely filled bars and donuts cream tastes very vegetable shorteny..$17 for 6 stale donuts and 1 kalache (which I purchased at 6:30 am and was eating by 7:15 am same day) Not a fan..Winchells is better and I don't even care for them..stick with Krispy Kreme..won't be going back..I heard such rave reviews from friends so decided to try. .maybe quality has gone downhill since, maybe my friends just don't have good taste in donuts..maybe they like day old donuts..extremely disappointed
The consistency of the food is off, big time. One day you get soft fluffy kolaches and the next day they are small, dried out, and hard. Same goes for the donuts. The only thing similar to the original Shipley's down south is the name. The food is not even close. If you like original Shipley's, skip this place because the food isn't the same.

Quality and service has declined. The donuts are different than what we’ve had in the past. They are smaller and more dense - very bready. They are so small the girl serving us was able to pick up three at a time by sticking her fingers in the holes. They used to be melt in your mouth delicious but these were not very good. When she checked us out, she walked away without giving us the receipt. I had to take it off the cash register myself. No thank you or anything. I will not be back.
We're from Texas so when we heard there was a Shipley's in Colorado, we wanted to go get donuts and kolaches. We drove an hour and 15 minutes to get there and were very disappointed. My husband ordered 1 sausage and cheese kolache & 1 ham and cheese kolache. I ordered 1 sausage and cheese kolache & a chocolate filled donut. We also ordered a dozen kolaches, a dozen assorted donuts and a few bags of donut holes to surprise our daughter and her roommates at College. The guy started loading our box with DARK brown kolaches that were on the verge of being burnt. I stopped him and said these are way overcooked, do you have more? He put them back and looked through the same trays for the lightest ones but they were still very overcooked! My husband and I put the kolaches for my daughter in an insulated bag to keep them hot on the drive to her dorm. We ate our kolaches right away, very excited! They were definitely overcooked! They were harder and dryer than any kolache I've eaten from Shipley's, even the sausage and cheese inside was dried out. My husband also had a ham and cheese, he said the ham and cheese tasted better than the sausage and cheese because it wasn't so overcooked. I was just disappointed that we drove so far, spent $70 for overcooked kolaches. Here is a pic of the least overcooked kolache in the batch. They should be much lighter, a kolache should be tan or very light brown, not this dark of brown.
By the way, my daughter was so surprised and she loved the donuts! She ate the kolaches because they were a change from the dining hall but they were not comparable to a Shipley's in Texas.
Shipley's Donuts is a southern staple! These are the best donuts in the USA! Their classic glazed donut is light, sweet, and tender. Their cake donuts with chocolate are my absolute favorite. They sell a glazed donut with a pink glaze and sprinkles that looks just like the donut in the Simpson's. They also serve all kinds of different pastries and breakfast items. While they sell "kolaches" please understand, they are really a klobasniky, which are real tasty sausage filled pastries; but are not square pastries with a fruit preserve in the center... they sell jelly filled donuts if you want a pastry with some fruit filling! There is currently only one Shipley's Donuts in Denver, and just know, where ever you are on the front range, it is worth the trip!
To me they are average for a doughnut shop that's why I gave them 3 stars. They have sausage pastries that don't compare to the ones I've had in Texas, but they're the only place I have found so far in the Aurora area since my favorite Korean bakery closed. Nothing really stands out good or bad.
