Great local spot. We grabbed beers and a starter but wish we had ordered more…no wonder you have to make a reservation for dinner — all of the dishes looked incredible! The staff were welcoming and friendly, despite it being busy on NYE afternoon. It was even nice to chat with a few locals as well…Murray and Oz, you guys rock!

Definitely make reservations for the best dinner you’ll have in NZ. We slacked on making reservations but managed to find an early dinner time slot the day before we arrived. We ordered the pork belly and steak. Both were cooked to perfection! The pork was not too salty nor fatty, and the sauce and potatoes were so good. I wouldn’t risk a chance at missing out on eating here so make reservations! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Te Anau is not the best place for village atmosphere, but there are two places to eat that are both recommended and require booking ahead. The RedCliff is one of them - a small restaurant with a cozy dining area tucked away in the back. As we have found in many places, the staff are super-friendly and attentive. The food was really good and interesting with a varied menu choice. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $90–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Lamb Rack

I found a lot of restaurants usually arrange the tables so close together so they can get more customers but not RedCliff. The tables have a perfect space so when we talk it’s not too loud. The food is delicious. I totally recommend the backslap risotto. Staff are friendly when we actually sit on the table. Be sure to book a table beforehand. However, we book a table and stay in the front with 5 staff working around, 2 people at the bar and everyone obviously know that we’re there but no one said hi until 10 mins later, so if you look Asians I feel it’s a bit racist while the white couples before us (without a booking) got served a table. Price per person $70–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Venison Carpaccio
This is a hidden secret in Te Anau and so very good, that you MUST try it if you are planning to stay here. They are always booked, so reservations are a must. We had reservations but we got late and did not have cell service to call the restaurant. They still honored our reservation, but made us sit in the "Naughty Corner" lol! That's actually a really cute corner of the bar, which opens into the patio and people usually only get drinks there. The restaurant was sweet enough to serve us a full menu. We ordered the tomato and basil soup, the bread plate with 3 dips, the blue cod and the salmon with crepe. Everything was DELICIOUS. That tomato soup was creamy, warm, and very satisfying as it filled my insides with a hug. The dips with the breads were very good! We didn't quite hear what the dips were but they tasted of beet root, hummus and carrot. The breads themselves were very nicely baked. The main entrees were large portions. The cod was nice but on the bland side. The salmon had more flavor itself. The crepe filled with spinach and a creamy/cheese sauce, was the highlight of that dish. We also got a couple of Sauvignon Blanc options from Marlborough, and they were both good. The restaurant is very eclectic. Every wall has a story, especially the one with signed T-shirts from the LOTR and the Hobbit teams. If you plan to stay in Te Anau, try to get a meal here and explore the whole place. It is simply adorable, the people are all great and their food is wonderful! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Smoked Salmon

10/10 hands down the best food in Te Anau. Venison osso bucco was to die for - tasted like a super tender brisket in my opinion. My wife had the savory crepe and salmon which was mind blowing. Absolutely go here for dinner, don't waste your time anywhere else. The "our mess" dessert was to die for. I couldn't be happier with my dining experience. Also, loved the artwork and vibe- got to meet Doug the Golden retriever as well. It was an extremely happy day. We went there for lunch on a Wednesday in November. No wait at all. The food was delicious and the staff were really nice. We tried to go back for dinner but didn’t have a reservation and it was fully booked. Highly recommend stopping there if you drive by or stay in Te Anau! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I had a really lovely dinner at the Redcliffe Cafe. Chloe was my server and she gave me a bunch of wonderful recommendations. I ended up getting the rabbit and it was really nice. Cooked perfectly and paired well with the risotto. Great place to eat when visiting Te Anau and would 100% recommend. I would suggest getting a reservation as well because it can get quite busy. Great food and selection of wines. Definitely seems like one of the best places to eat in Te Anau. The restaurant in the back seemed nicer than the area out front. Recommended dishes Hare Croquettes
