Papa Jose’s is delicious! I ordered the Tamale dish with green chili smothered and my husband ordered Chili Relenos. There’s also a kid menu (and high chairs), but instead of buying a food item $5+ on the kids menu we ordered a soft taco for $3.50ish. We have a 13 month old so the taco was enough with extra to spare. We got complementary chips and salsa after 5pm ($1 for refills). The chips were warm and crunchy. The tamales were moist, not dry, which is great. The plate super filling. My husband enjoyed his rellenos with red sauce. He said it was really good, however he does like his rellenos more crispy. We also ordered fried ice cream. Super delicious however the center was still very much hard frozen making it hard to push my spoon through it. Yummy though! The dining room, super clean and taken care of. The decor is cute, little gecko and lizards on one wall. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. I’m most surprised and appreciative of the cost to eat here. Very affordable compared to a lot of Pueblo restaurants that we’ve visited. I was able to get my dinner for just under $10 my husbands plate was $13. The prices are a huge factor that will drive success and business to this restaurant in this current economy. Easily my favorite restaurant in Pueblo. Food is always hot and delicious, and they've never mistaken my order. Surprisingly affordable too. If you've got the time, I can't recommend it more. Free chips and salsa after 5:30. I usually get the smothered bean & chorizo burrito. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed! Long wait to be seated. Tables were empty/reserved. However, the party never showed before we were finally seated, ate, paid, and left. Tacos were in pre-made shells and were not seasoned well...possibly store package. Everything else was good. Wait staff great. Went here specifically for the fried ice cream. I figured I'd be a responsible adult and eat a meal first so I had a chicken quesadilla. The food came out quickly and was delicious. My server, Sarah, was sweet and attentive. The fried ice cream did not disappoint and I'll make a point to eat here again next time I'm in town. The pricing was shockingly reasonable, especially for the amount and quality of the food. Definitely recommend! I'm surprised we have not been here before. It's fairly cute with seating inside and outside. We sat outside since it was a beautiful day. The restaurant was fairly busy for a weekday afternoon. We ordered the nachos richos and chicken taquitos appetizer. We also got the classic and house special margarita. The nachos were pretty decent and came with jalapenos which were nice and hot. That was a good addition. The taquitos were fried, very warm and delicious but bland. They came with guacamole which was very good, sour cream and the salsa which I had to add to every bite. I also got a side of their hot green chili and it was decently hot and very good and tasty. As far as the drinks go, the house special margarita comes with amaretto. I did not like it. I preferred the regular one. Beware, it feels light and smooth but hits you by the time you've finished it! We could do with a lot more salt on the rim than what the glasses had. This was our first time eating at Papa Jose's. The outside seating adds to the atmosphere. My enchiladas, beans and rice was average and on the bland side. The hot sauce in the bottles as well as the chunkier salsa for the chips made up for the blandness of the food. The sauces were wonderfully hot! Our waitress was great. The speed of service was average. I would recommend Papa Jose's to others but it might be a while before we return as we like flavor. I and my husband have went to Papa Jose's for years. We enjoyed their food, wait staff and both owners. Last night was a nightmare. I have never been treated so poorly by anyone ever. My family was yelled at and insulted by my favorite waitress and the owner because of their attitudes. A different waitress dopped a few plates and my family got food in their hair, clothes and coats. We felt they should have compt their meals. The conversation got so heated between the waitress and us I asked her to send out the owner as she had said she was going to do to begin with. He was awful. He insulted my family and then said I've never seen you guys in here but I see her, meaning me, in here all the time. Who cares if he saw my family before they were paying customers and should have been treated with respect. All they kept saying was it was an accident. No one denied that it was an unfortunate situation/accident. We felt the owners and waitress handle this situation so unprofessionally it was unreal. The offer was extended to my family to get their clothes cleaned, give me the bill and he would pay me and I could give them the money. The deliverance of the message and attitude of the owner was so rude I found it to be very insincere and even more insulting. My family was here from out of state to help me celebrate my husband Celebration of Life the next day. Needless to say this wasn't the experience I was expecting for my family nor myself to encounter at a restaurant I and my husband enjoyed for years. I will never go back. I don't care how good the food is, being treated like that is totally unacceptable. I hope the $20 for 2 meals was worth it to the owners/waitress. On my way out I spoke with the female owner. I told her how unhappy I was with this situation. She started in on how it was an accident and no one would acknowledge her waitress saying she was sorry. That wasn't true. I did in-between trying to help my family get food out of their hair/clothes. I told her 3 times this situation should have never excelerated to this level. After 3rd time of saying it she finally agreed that the situation should have never reached this level. This was a situation that didn't need to happen. What a shame. Okay, I'm back to really liking this restaurant. I hadn't been back in a while after a bad experience with some of the staff(some rude women). I don't know if they knew we could hear them talking smack about us in the kitchen or didn't care, but I was so embarrassed I just wanted to leave right then. I finally came back and it's good to see they're gone. There is much friendlier staff now. The food has always been pretty good! Edit: I went recently after it reopened and added a 🌟 .
