I had my birthday dinner here, and these people really know how to prepare native dishes. 👏🏽
I had Onunu (ripe plantain+yam pounded together) and Fisherman’s soup with beef as the main protein and other obstacles present. It was such a delicious delicacy.
They also have board and card games present at each table to keep you and your friends/family entertained while your meal is being prepared.
If you ever happen to go there, I strongly recommend you order “Noah’s Ark”. It’s a meal that comes with every protein you can think of: beef, chicken, snails, crabs, prawns etc, all in one dish. The only problem is that this meal is quite seasonal, so if you’re lucky it’ll be available for you. I wasn’t so lucky lol. Also, try their palm wine while you’re at it. Thank me later! 😉

My first time having fisherman soup and onunu/pounded yam and it was really good. It’s a good place to have a taste of native Nigerian foods. The aesthetics is not so much but it’s perfect for the concept of the restaurant.
I wanted to take my wife to somewhere new in PH and Native tray came to mind as although I had been there before I didn't have the patience at the time to wait for them to prepare the soup.
We wanted to go to the Trans-Amadi outlet, but we called in and for some reason they redirected me to GRA outlet. Directed by google maps, We went to the GRA branch and had to ask around as there wasn't an obvious sign post on the major road to direct customers.
We were welcomed into the warm, beautiful restaurant space by a very courteous waiter, who was superb at his job describing the meals to us while we went through the menu which I must say is a work of art in and by itself. As we read of tribes and then were introduced to their delicacies.
I am big on time and true to their promise, In exactly 30 minutes from when we ordered, our order of Fisherman soup and eba was on our table. My wife thought the soup could be thicker, but we will still score them an A.
I'll definitely be back.
Till next time

Native Tray has been on my list for some time now & I finally had to pay a visit. Well, I did try Rivers Native soup. The soup was tasty 😋 but for 7k, I was really expecting some holdup....you know 😕 😅 but i guess the economy downturn shattered my expectations. I think Native Tray should improve on that.

Native Soup
Local food cooked the right way. Perfect manner to introduce my friend to Rivers delicacies with the periwinkles in shells in the soup(that needs a lot of getting used to).
The decor is irregular and simple. I enjoyed reliving my childhood by playing board games which the restaurant provided.
We got there too early but we were allowed to sit a while before placing our orders and maybe that’s why it took some time to get us our food and don’t judge me, swallow can be my first meal of the day.
The portions were huge and we were filled.
The toilet wasn’t much of a looker.
I was really looking forward to the meal from here cos a friend recommended them highly and I was highly disappointed.
At almost 8k (excluding delivery charges) the food was grossly overpriced and when it arrived, the portion was barely enough for one person (had to order food from somewhere else), and it didn't contain items I was charged for! (I asked for chicken thighs and beef and I received barely half a bowl of soup with chicken wings and no beef!)
When I called to complain, I was told the beef 'was cut into pieces in the soup'. (I guess the 'knorr cubes' sized whatever on the spoon are meant to be the beef pieces 🙄)
A call in response to the complaint was ended with a promise to rectify the complaint and followed by nothing.
