When I came to Ulu Langat for the first time, I wanted to dine at Liu Gu but it was very last minute decision & they were fully booked then. When another staycation in Ulu Langat is beckoning, I went full length to book for 2 tables one month before 😅 as there were 17 of us and I didn't want to be disappointed again. We arrived in front of the restaurant before lunch time. Baskets and trays of vegetables, gingers and other ingredients were ready to be processed. Outside, the area was surrounded by greenery with forest and durian farms surrounding. The power of numbers mean that we can afford to order more variety of dishes ◾Pork stomach & chicken white pepper soup was perfect that day - the soup was brimming with the sweetness of the chicken and hotness from white pepper. Dried squid & onion only added more to the flavour. Not enough for everyone. ◾steamed chicken - love the colour of the skin and sheer natural sweetness of its flesh. Enak dimakan begitu saja. ◾steamed herbal chicken with wolfberries - different chicken with different style of cooking. The gravy went well with the kids' rice. ◾deep fried tilapia - huge size whole tilapia with soy sauce and pork lards (!!).. you didn't read it wrong. ◾steamed tilapia with minced ginger was aromatic and addition of pork lard only enhanced the overall flavour. ◾steamed beancurd with fried garlic and pork lards gave the soft tofu a crunchy bites. ◾curry wild boar was just as nice as the one I had in Keong Kee Pudu. ◾Braised hakka 5-spices pork with black fungus would get nod of approval from the majority Hakkas at the table. ◾stir fried sweet potato leaves ◾stir fried kangkung with chilly A very popular restaurant in Ulu Langat due to their homestyle cooking, the dishes were unpretentious and honest. Everyone enjoyed the meal and had nothing but praise to Liu Gu. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes Steam Kampong Chicken
This place is famous for their Free Roam Chicken (走地鸡). Note that you would need to book the Chicken beforehand, especially on the weekends and public holiday. A group of 6 people. We had - Steamed Chicken (白切鸡) (from RM70 - RM103, can only order whole Chicken), - Stir Fried Sesame Ginger Chicken (麻油炒姜鸡) (RM80 for whole chicken)(or RM45 for half chicken), - Hakka Braised Pork (客家炸肉) for RM35, - Steamed Tofu with Fried Garlic (蒜末猪油渣水豆腐) for RM9, and - Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves (番薯叶) for RM10 to RM15. We had it for a total of RM230, including tea and white rice, around RM38 per person. The highlights are the Steamed Chicken and the Ginger Chicken. The steamed chicken is very flavorful, slight tough meat as the chicken is free-roaming, while the skin is not fatty. The skin is crispy even when it is steamed!!! The ginger chicken is fantastic, nice sesame oil and ginger flavor, while having a fragrant rice wine in the sauce. Some customers even brought their own Whiskey to add into the dish. The Hakka Braised Pork is good, up to the Hakka standard I would say (from a non-Hakka person ^_^). The tofu is good as well, nothing to complain there. The vegetable is a bit light on flavor, comparatively to the other dishes, so it is slightly underwhelming. As it is a homemade local business, the speed can be a bit slow, so get ready to hangout with a good pot of Chinese tea. The atmosphere is comfortable. You have to make the reservation before coming to restaurant. The pepper soup and free range chickens are the main attractions. The chicken meat is tender and sauce is flavorful. I love the ginger paste. Ordered the fish as well and its very big fish and taste good too

One of the best steam chicken u can get. Try their wine ginger chicken and a must to order their pig stomach pepper soup.... expensive but well worth it!!! Their fish also not bad. But since we have kids can only try steam. Everyone else order their spicy and sour deep fried version. This place must book. No walk in.
Not difficult to find if you follow the GPS. The place is cleaned and the staff is very friendly. We enjoy the free range chicken a lot - it’s nicely cooked, the meat is sweet and juicy very yummy. The rice wine chicken is good too but I prefer more ginger and wine though I have already asked for 2 bottles of wines it’s still not strong enough. Will go back again to try out other home made dishes.

follow the gps and you will find the place.... eventually :). clean and quiet environment and its comfy enough on a hot afternoon. must call to book and pre-order your food at 1 day earlier. be warned that the place is run by only 2 person, a waitress that will seat you and serve you drinks and the lady bos that will take your order and cook the food. she is friendly and give good info on her food but the waiting time could be long as she needs to finish cooking each table's food and then only comes out taking orders. tables available are only about 4-5 and it gets fully booked on weekends and holidays. now for the food, the steam chicken is one of the best in kl and definitely worth returning for. the meat is juicy and tender and you could savour the rich taste of the chicken in every bite. vege and fish are also good and would be trying their other cooking style and menu on future visits. the fried pork taste is ok for finger food but its way too crispy and not to my preference as main dish. the texture reminds me of a thick pringles as it lost the juiciness of the meat and fats. prices are on the high side but worth it for the quality and great food we had. will be back again pretty soon.

Reservation is a must cos they have limited runs for their dishes. The soup and free range chickens are the attraction. Meat is tender and sauce is flavorful. Love the ginger paste. Ordered the fish as well and its very big fish. Rich texture and soft meat. Location a little off to go back, but if you're around the area, do drop by for a good meal. They sell eggs too!
