For far too long, Régua seemed to lack a good wine bar, this has changed. Although it does not completely draw all its wines from the Douro, the wine selection has quite a few nice surprises from all over Portugal and a couple international locations. While there were some small dishes, it is recommended you eat a full meal elsewhere (the petiscos were delicious). As for the wine, I appreciated the suggestions the owner offered based on some questions she asked. Her recommendations were spot on. The decor transports you to another century, a very cool vibe. Do not miss this place! The most wonderful wine bar with fantastic tapas. The space is beautifully designed staying true to how the space was used for wine making in the past. Maria, the owner, makes you feel fully at home in the wine cellar of her family's ancestral home, Quinta de Villa Franca, where you can also stay. With all the tourism flooding Portugal at the moment it is easy to fall into a tourist trap, Libatio is not one of these traps. If your looking for an authentic Douro Valley experience provided by a local this is definitely the place. The selection of wines is a pleasure to the senses and phenomenally flavourful experience. Not only was the location incredibly unique and special, but the wine selection was unreal and the tapas were incredible. Our server was brilliant and had amazing recommendations. Can’t wait to come again!!
