A true institution of typical Puerto Rican food, made at the highest level by the same family for over 50 years. The place is in the middle of the mountains off of a terribly maintained road so parking can be challenging. It's a large space with a bar, an area with take home snacks and typical desserts. The restaurant has a homey feel about it decorated with all the antiques, newspaper clippings and awards. The food was the best version I've ever had of everything I tasted! The rice, garbanzo beans, stewed codfish, stewed beef, onion steak, cuajito, etc, etc. This meal was a month ago and I can still remember the taste! Amazing experience! The best of this place is the service, the server was excellent. He knows the portions we need by look the group and by the complement we disorderly ordered, that’s superb. Food is tasty, local flavor with its kick. The Papaya w Queso fresco is the way to finish any dinner here.

55 min wait, no water, no drinks no acknowledgement. Tried approaching them several times and eventually went to them to ask for service. Lechon looked good so we decided to wait. After a total of 55 min, the waitress came and told us that there was no more pork and they didn’t want to approach us before because they were not sure they were gonna have enough pork…terrible service. Will never come back, not that they will care Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
Nothing about this food is boar-ing 🐗 Highlights: • Lechon Asado • Morcilla • Arroz con Gandules Review: In Mexico we have carnitas and in Puerto Rico they have Lechon Asado a la varita. First I tried the arroz con gandules which was everything I wished for and more. Nicely seasoned, with fresh aromatics and a perfect fluffy texture. Next I tried the batata hervida which is a type of sweet potato but it wasn’t my favorite. Finally the star of the show did not disappoint, the lechon was succulent, meaty, fall apart texture, with nice rendered fat and the cuerito was chefs kiss perfection. I can’t wait to go back to try their other sides and drinks. Rating: 8/10 Lechon Asado Arroz con Gandules Batata hervida Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Carne Asada
The food was served fast, because we ordered the family combo. Pork had no flavor, the pasteles were good. The arroz con gandules was average. Tostones were dried and tasted a bit stale. The people are very friendly. If you are not from there, it's a little crazy, not your typical restaurant. You have to find where to sit and grab someone to get your order.
Visited because of ratings. It was 5 of us and I must say that the roasted pork was not seasoned well or tender enough. Rice and peas was delicious. The Don Q with passion 🍓 drink was outstanding. Our service was not the best after we got food had to flag waiter down. We don't mind tipping but we tip on service not just because we are eating at these establishments. Visited this place in September for my daughter's birthday and the experience was...awesome! Did really enjoy the "arroz con gandules, the roasted pork-with "cuerito"(pork's skin) and pastel de masa(plantain tamales). A very typical and tantalizing in-country mountain atmosphere!
