I had the honey garlic wings that were very tasty. The mac & cheese and collard greens were ok, I’ve tasted better. Sweet Yams were a little dry as if they were sitting out all day. My partner had catfish po’ boy sandwich with fries. He said the catfish was over-fried. I had the From The Jungle drink but it was too bitter so I switched it for the Black Girl Magic which was amazing. Great atmosphere and the food feels like home. Great for a business traveler wanting, a good soul food meal without too much fluff but good quality. The people make you feel super welcome, they get it and it all works here. I was able to chat with the owner Julia and she is has such a cool vibe. I am from Jacksonville Fl and not when I will be back. However I highly recommend this spot for a good meal or someone wanting to support an high quality African American owned business in Rhode Island. My kids loved the chicken sandwich and waffles. The whole restaurant is a vibe! From the food to the service to the atmosphere, i enjoyed all of it! Let me just say, I’m from the south. I’ve lived in the south for most of my life. I thought the food was really good! The chicken wings were delicious! The greens were really good, and after adding their hot sauce, they were PERFECT! The Mac and cheese was also very good! The cornbread was different than what I’m used to, but with the honey butter, i thought it was really good! I even tried the beignets. They were different than the beignets I’ve had in New Orleans, but they were still very good! I enjoyed this restaurants take on southern dishes! I definitely will return and I really want to go to brunch! Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Mac Cheese
As a 🎵Southern Girl🎶, my taste buds are never high when visiting any restaurant outside of the South with soul food on the menu. But I am open to trying the different takes/flairs wherever I visit. So Kin was a MUST, especially since it was the only Black owned spot downtown I could find in my research. The food was ok, but the customer service, ambiance & playlist exceeded my expectations. If ever in PVD, I will definitely return. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I'm sorry but the third time and still not a charm, from the over-battered chicken wings that were clearly burnt and cooked in old cooking oil to the very dry and flavorless mac & cheese. Honestly should've not left the kitchen looking like that let alone serving it to someone, just not understanding. Presentation DOES matter...does it not?The collard greens were sweet yet vinergary which was an awful tasting mess. The catfish was also burnt and overcooked. Here's an idea...change your oil and turn the temperature down. What is up with the five pieces of wings, just do six...makes more sense right? Server was pleasant enough but please stop assuming or pushing the Black Girl Magic drink on every female that walks through the door, there are other options to choose from. I really tried to support but can no longer continue to tolerate mediocrity at best. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

Took 1 hour for food to come & it was cold & unseasoned. The waffles weren't even fresh, they were very thick & heavy. Only 4 wing flings & I specifically asked if the meal came with whole wings. Grits were undercooked and not delicious at all. Service was not pleasant. Chicken sandwich had very little chicken and sauce, the bacon was very thick & hard. The potatoes were cut so big with no seasoning. And the salt shaker was empty. We're still sitting here thirsty. Took 40 minutes to get a second cup of coffee. Just an bad experience overalll. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone or return here. Too expensive for the service or flavor that was provided to us. By the way were still hungry 😕 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 4

Missing my tasty homecooked Southern soulfood traditions terribly, I dropped into Kin after work this past Friday. Once again, I was greeted by warm inviting wait staff, the manager and the owner herself. Ordered dine-in and also to go. Fried chicken wings entree with collard greens, macaroni and corn bread with its secret ingredients. Music and ambiance was relaxing, so I ordered my signature smooth drink of Bacardi black rum and Goslings Ginger Beer...the Mamba Special. Yes, upon tasting this splendid cuisine, I was once again transported back in time to my native Savannah, Georgia. My weekend started out perfectly thanks to this 5 star dining experience and my catfish entree and more delicious sides to go. Come relax here, enjoy yourself and dare to accompany your meal with my signature drink recommendation! As for me, I love Kin and I am definitely coming back again.
The ambiance and decor was nice and the concept is great. The food was mostly disappointing.....the salmon was not flavorful, the greens were bland and the Mac and cheese was dry. The wings were saucy and delicious and so were the candied yams. My drink was good, but my fiancée drink had to be made over because it was bitter....our server was nice and attentive. Overall, this restaurant could do so much better. Lastly, they were promoting music later that evening (Saturday) starting at 9 or 10, but when we attempted to give this place another chance, it was an epic fail because they were not even open. First time going yesterday. Fish was great and so were the sides. Only suggestion I have is to make sure you greet the guest and never assume they have been taken care of. Also, I didn't see any signs on how to obtain a menu if you're ordering for take out. I could be wrong on that though. We were seated and it literally took them almost 2 hours to get everyone food out. When the food FINALLY came out it was literally cold to the touch. None of the food was served at once instead one person would get their food and 30 minutes later another person would. Crazy. Service Was okay and the menu was trash. The eggs were disgusting the chicken was gross and the cheesy grits were almost diabolical. ALSO please lower the music, it’s uncomfortably loud and nobody could hear each other. Great music choices but please… Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
