Ishy, his mom and Cousin are amazing. The food is really tasty and both days we had family style dinner with local snacks and different curries. Make sure to stop by and try the food if you're in the area. Make sure to bring enough time to enjoy the cooking process and engage with the family and other guests. Ishy and his family are so welcoming. We arrived around 7pm and he asked the customers what they wanted to eat and then started the cooking process. I asked if i could help and learn and he immediately agreed. His mum showed me some techniques and i felt like a friend of the family. Around an hour later the food was ready. They prepared a bunch of different local dishes (some of them we didn’t see anywhere else) and we set the buffet on one big table « family style ». Vegetarian friendly. The value is very good for the quality and quantity (almost all you can eat as he brings you always more stuff) 😂 Then Ishy taught us how to play Carrom and we played with another couple and had so much fun. It is a bit outside the town but so much better and special. You can tell Ishy is a nice guy and not just a business person. He even built the place with his own hands. Arrived as clients and we leave as friends. So happy we have discovered this place! Ishy cooks extremely good and he has an incredible energy that attracts only good things! We had only great times and delicious foods with him! Playing caran, sharing with other travelers, listening to music and even sharing the sunset. He is so generous and humble and the restaurant has a really nice history :) We wish you all the best! You are already rocking it! Hope to see you again soon!! Awesome food and awesome people. Ishy and his „brother from another mother“ are two pretty cool guys and also shared a lot of information with us. Outstanding food, service and company from the Chef. The restaurant is quaint and intimate where the Chef is able to talk through the making of the dish. Very accommodating and the menu tailored to our tastes. We would highly recommend checking out this restaurant if your looking for traditional, home cooked Sri Lankan food cooked by someone who is passionate about cooking it for you. We had a delightful dinner with our family at Kaluwara restaurant. We ordered Sri Lankan curry, opting for both chicken and vegetarian options. While the owner and his mother began cooking, we played a game of Uno, which was available at the restaurant. As the pots and pans simmered, the owner took me in his tuktuk to a local beer shop to get some accompanying beers. All in all, it was a fantastic experience. Not to be missed! Brilliant little place. A one-man operation: Ishi made the best meal of our trip. We weren’t able to attend a cooking class but they looked great fun too. Cannot recommend this one highly enough if you’re in Sigiriya. And probably worth a trip to even if you’re not.
