Food and service were fantastic! I hope to be back again to try different menu items! I tried the stuffed artichoke hearts, chicken parmigiana, chicken Marsala. Salad and antipasto were good, chicken soup and minestrone both tasty. The bread was nice and soft with crispy edges, pleasant dining room atmosphere. Overall great experience. Would recommend. I cherish established restaurants like this. It’s so hard to find “old school” Italian food. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and feels very comfortable inside. The staff is amazing and works well with each other and the guests. Our food was amazing! My friend had their meatballs, which are the best I’ve tasted in over 30 years! The menu was classic and creative and every dish we had was perfection. Also, when you are there, check out their vintage phone room. This was my first time here. The food looked pretty good based on the online photos. And that was the case, all our food was good quality with decent portions. I ordered the chicken saltimbocca ($26.50) and the chicken was not tough at all - I could cut it with a fork easily. The sauce was okay, but it lacked flavor and richness. Also, the ham/meat that came with it had absolutely no taste and no salt surprisingly. Same with my mom’s chicken marsala, $24.50. Chicken was good, but the sauce needed more depth. My dad got the veal Parm ($27) and it might’ve been the best veal I’ve had in RI for a long time. Cooked perfectly! He gave me a piece and it was thin and juicy which is rare. Their tomato sauce was very good as well. All these entrées came with either pasta or vegetable, but for $2 more you could get these options and a few other sides as well - ice cream also. Staff was very friendly, but the atmosphere was bleak and the interior coloring was nasty - a bad pinkish/red color. I get it though, they’re keeping a really old school. Had dinner after seeing a show at the Providence Performing Arts Center. Our waitress was awesome, very welcoming and explained the menu choices in detail. Had a wonderful dinner and will Definitely visit again. Meatballs were so delicious and meat ravioli were wicked good! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

On someone's Instagram account, I saw this location. Beautiful pink decorations were used inside. I believed that this location would be ideal for my friend's birthday meal. We selected the fried egg plants with cooked vegetables, the clam past, and the beef ball with ravioli from the lunch menu. Soups and sweets were included with each lunch set. The clam pasta was outstanding, the meatballs were the finest I've ever had, and the flavor is not overpowering. The waiter was polite and helpful. The Italian restaurant was the best I'd tried lately.

Delicious dinner spot in a lovely Italian strip. Felt like we were eating at a “mob spot” but in a fun kitschy way. Some of the main curses come with a side of pasta so we had far too many leftovers. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50

Absolutely fantastic experience. There is nothing better than a traditional Italian meal in a truly fabulous restaurant like the Old Canteen. Founded in 1956, it’s a step back in time when a leisurely meal was a staple. Everything was wonderful… from our server Pete, the wine and the perfectly prepared entrees. The veal Piccata was a generous portion of perfectly cooked veal served with a side of linguine and red sauce. Paired with a Super Tuscan wine … it was the perfect lunch.
