Loved this place, one of the most interesting restaurants ibhave been too. So quickly, interesting and vibrant. All the eclectic, eccentric stuff I love! The cocktails were amazing, the food was incredible. I had a Waygu burger and my friend had the Pork Neck which was superb! If I lived closer I would be a frequent visitor! The food was average. Service just okay. The waiter got the order wrong but was able to swiftly fix. The antique decor is a special touch. The stairs were a little too steep to the upper floor. The mimosa was a little bit more of orange juice. A little disappointed with that. They allow pets. We have no problem with that except when the fabric chairs also has evidence of the furry loved ones. Service Dine in Meal type Breakfast Price per person R 200–250 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
Incredible experience! Food was out of this world. They were very welcoming & went out of their way to make our experience memorable - they even showed our the wine cellar. If you ever decide to eat here ask for Eugene !! He went above and beyond to make our visit special and memorable. Thanks Eugene for your tour of the wine cellar, keeing the drinks coming and refilling the ice holder regularly on a hot summers day. Food was great, desert pairing was fabulous. Really good lunch. Quaint aesthetic, with an escape room feel. Place is packed with vintage memorabilia, a bit like taking a trip down memory lane. Food was delicious, really large portions and very satisfying. Loved the tables and chairs, each seat different from the next. Would love to go back. Really well worth a visit. Absolutely wonderful experience in peak season and midday. What an incredible menu to choose from. As if that wasn't enough, a fantastic holiday special menu with delightful options was included! We sat upstairs on the outside balcony which was so interesting and relaxing. Our waiter was great. The beer tasting is highly recommended! Our burgers were delicious and the icecream too. Really fantastic place to eat! Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person R 250–300 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Really a hidden gem... It was quite busy so the food took longer than anticipated, but it was worth the wait... Our waiter, Eugene, looked after us, very apologetic for the food taking so long, his hospitality was mind blowing... Well done Eugene... Hoi Polloi is a quirky little restaurant in the main street in Parys. The decor inside will keep you entertained as there are so many little bits of memorabilia hanging from the walls and ceiling. The tables are ornately decorated with stunning crockery and glassware, but also strange objects. Unfortunately I found the busy tables a bit of an annoyance as we had a giant glass dome blocking us from chatting to people on the other side of the table. The service is slow. We had to keep flagging down our waitress when we wanted something, and the drinks and food took ages to get to us (and the restaurant wasn’t overly busy). When the food arrived some of the dishes were lukewarm instead of hot, so had obviously been sitting at the kitchen for a long while. The disappointment mainly comes from the food. It is all presented beautifully, but unfortunately lacked substance and flavour. The Lamb Shank was perfectly cooked and tender, but quite bland. It comes wrapped around a roti which was dry and chewy. They smear a bit of green sauce inside but this doesn’t add much to the flavour and isn’t nearly enough to make the roti more enjoyable. The Gnocchi was the best dish we tried. A rich, creamy sauce and soft, pillowy gnocchi. The Truffle Risotto was nice but there was no sign of truffle being used in the dish, making it quite plain. The Abalone starter was a few tiny slivers of abalone hidden in a mound of risotto. You can barely get a taste of the abalone. They also put the accompaniments of guacamole on the far corner of the plate, rather as a decoration than part of the meal. Seemed quite silly to add that. The cocktails were just overly sweet. The ones we had were packed with either sorbet, marmalade or syrup. They were pretty to look at but hard to drink. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch
