If you feel hungry after visiting Whanganui Regional Museum, have a meal at this restaurant. It's worth coming to High-Kut Bistro to try perfectly cooked steaks, scallops and lamb. The wine list is extensive, every guest will find something that satisfies their taste. The terrific staff works hard, stays positive and makes this place great. If you want to enjoy good service, you should visit this place. Prices are found adequate here. Very accommodating for our arrival, superb service was friendly, unobtrusive and prompt. Food was excellent - scallops and chicken bites for entree, Eye Fillet, Lamb Rack, Port Belly and Pasta Vodka were all perfectly cooked, and very tasty. Wine list was high quality without being over-priced, and complimented the meal perfectly. Even the water was drinkable (tap water in Wanganui is awful). Highly recommend this restaurant. Very nice friendly service. The food was clean and fresh. It was obvious these people take pride in what they're doing. We were in Wanganui for the weekend and had already dined where we were staying so for our second night we ventured across the road to a restaurant the locals didn't know too much about because it had only recently opened. Well let me tell the locals this - they should dine at High-Kut Bistro as soon as possible. Because the food is that good. Unfortunately our and many others romantic night was ruined by a table of trailer park trash celebrating a birthday party at the same time. I know they were trailer park trash because everytime a male from the group, either young or old, went the toilet, they had to tell everyone about it when they came back. And thats after all the belching and food throwing. I can only wish they weren't local and don't go to High-Kut Bistro often. Thanks team for a great meal, can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Especially the toasted almonds bit.

The food was okay, but the aspect that was most disappointing was the service. When ordering we had to repeat multiple times what we wanted, then our meal was given to another table directly in front of us. We then had to wait longer as a result, with the only apologies going to the other table and not us for the mix up. The whole experience just left us with the impression of “it was fine”. Wonderful food. And great service too. Dishes was plated appetizing. Steak temperature was perfect and cook to profession. Highly recommend.

We went here a few weeks ago and I was very impressed. Delicious menu and nice wee atmosphere. The drinks range was not extensive but it was enough and the ones we ordered were delicious.

Please heed this warning, go somewhere else. I was served a cheap bit of steak, under eye fillit on the menu, but it was mostly fat, sent it back but still charged even though it was uneaten. The bathroom was appalling, with no hot water. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Really lovely food. Nice to have a few brunch options without egg. We accidentally left forgetting to pay the hill and they were really nice about it. Sorry about having to run after us! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
