I had the fried/stew fish with jollof rice, and it was so delicious. Every bite was overflowing with flavor, and the fish was just falling off the bone. The portions were pretty big, too. It's a cute spot, beautiful and simple decorations. One thing I really liked was that as soon as we walked in, we could smell incense burning, which was pretty nostalgic for me. Created a very soothing atmosphere. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Jerk Chicken

Heritage Spice is a small clean restaurant serving delicious food. We tried the Egusi with Fufu and the Oxtail with Jollof rice. We couldn't wait to dig in. The oxtail was tender and spicy. The jollof rice was flavorful. The egusi was sweet and spicy. The fufu was soft. The restaurant itself is very small with about 5 tables. It is very clean and decorated nicely. It was a little hot inside, it seems the air conditioning wasn't working that well when we went. Also it did take a little long to get the food but I think that's a good thing, means the food is fresh. There is street parking and municipal parking nearby. Overall great experience with trying Nigerian food for the first time. THANK YOU. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $30–50

Drove from New York to Connecticut to try them and they definitely did not disappoint. From when we first came in the vibes is on point. Everyone was super friendly and answered any questions we had. Food is amazing, we’ve tried the spring rolls, beef suya, jallof, fish, egusi with pounded yam, and puff puff. we have been back since then and they are always consistent with everything from service to food. They are definitely one of the best places I’ve had Nigerian food. The meat they serve is always tender. I’m excited to try out everything else they have. This place is so cute! The decor is very nice and the place is clean! Did I say CLEAN?! The food was also soo good! I had the suya as an appetizer and the Egusi with pounded yam. The seasonings used were *chefs kiss*. Will definitely be back.
I was so grateful to find a Nigerian restaurant with 20 minutes of my new home in Connecticut after years of many, many options in New York. I have only one complaint about the food - too much oil and sometimes salt. I've had to tip my bowl of soup to drain the palm oil off. Please ease up on the oil. Nobody wants their cholesterol raised up, please, and thank you. Just WOW! My partner and I passed this little jewel on our way from Shelton to New Haven to do a 45+ mile bike ride. Needless to say, we were starving coming back into town. We decided to give it a try and were not disappointed. We really enjoy trying authentic foods from other cultures, but that entails having to ask a few questions. The first thing that struck me was how patient the staff was. They not only did a wonderful job describing some of the dishes, but seemed genuinely happy we chose to eat in instead of grabbing food to-go. It was like we were family. (Note: they do have very limited space inside, but we had no problem getting a table on a Saturday night. There were also a couple of small tables outside.) As for the food? It was fantastic! We ordered Jerk Chicken and Swallow Egusi. (Or is that Egusi Swallow?) The latter gave us our first taste of FuFu and as a Southerner from North Carolina, I was in heaven. It was like eating mashed potatoes with your fingers ... which the owner encouraged us to do. (FuFu is typically made with yuca. I assume this was as well.) The Jerk Chicken came with plantains and a choice of rice dishes. We picked Jollof and let's just say ... I have found my new favorite rice dish. While the Jollof was a "side", the portion was large enough to feed several people. We also had Mixed Meat Pepper Soup (spicy but very tasty) and Spring Rolls. Everything we ordered was not just exceptional in taste, but came in portions so large we have enough food for at least 3 more meals. When we asked for some to-go containers, the young man helping us was meticulous, ensuring there were separate containers for each of the dishes and that they were packaged properly for the short trip home. Definitely one of the most unique and memorable dining experiences we've had. We are digital nomads who have been traveling the US for 7 months, and this experience not only fed our bodies, but our souls as well. Thank you, Heritage Spice! We wish you much success and hope to try your other amazing dishes again someday! PS: The owner left me a sweet reply and I somehow managed to remove it when I tried to add pic’s. I am soooooo sorry, Heritage Spice! Thank you again!

Food and service was excellent! We had the beef suya (spicy but yumyum), samosas (sauce is so good), jerk chicken (beautifully tender), and oxtail (licking the bone). Everything was really flavorful and very filling! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner
