I am all over the country and the first thing i try to find is a soul food restaurant. The one thing that they all have in common is the long wait for your food. The wait for Geegees was also long. From payment to getting the food the wait was 25 minutes. The wait staff seemed confused and had no personality. The one thing that small business doesn't seem to understand is, it's not your product that is making you money, it's customer service that's making you money. I ordered what you would think is the biggest selling items in a soul food restaurant. Chicken wings, Mac and cheese, yams and corn bread. The yams tasted like they were old and scrapped from the bottom of the pot. You could actually tasted the burnt crust from the bottom of the pot. The chicken wings tasted as if they were fried in old cooking oil and you could see that the color of the wings looked to have pieces of old burnt particles from other deep fried items. The corn bread looked good but had no flavor. The Mac and cheese was the only item that tasted as intended. This meal was a waste of money. I would not recommend this place. The food is really good idk why they’re 3.6 stars. people will complain about any little thing knowing damn well the food is good . I had for the first time yesterday the Mac was really good the yams was really good , it had the Perfect about of sweetness. The portion of food is fine to me, I got a large. And the place is done up really nice and it’s clean. I will be going back today for seconds 😂 and the Mac wasn’t left over it was fresh, a little of golden brown on top as well. The Mac noodles wasn’t overcooked it was perfect. I ordered a large fried chicken dinner( one leg and thigh ) with three sides. The fried chicken and macaroni & cheese lack any type of seasoning. The collard greens had plenty of smoked meat in it with a strong vinegar after taste. The potato salad was okay. With it being February and Black History month I truly believe in supporting black owned businesses. I wasn't satisfy but I'll give Gee's another try. Visited recently with 6 friends. Enjoyed everything. Unlimited iced tea that they didn't charge us for, along with unlimited mango something juice that they didn't charge us for. There are no words that will adequately describe how delicious the macaroni and cheese. Six people bill was $157 not bad at all. Manager-Owner came out personally met us she took out order. She gave us a little history about the place, and she took really good care of us. We inquired so much about the sides that she just brought us a tray of all the sides that they offer; giving us an opportunity to taste before we decided what sides we would choose. Plenty of parking and comfortable seating inside. We visit Providence every October, will definitely be back October 2024. Was looking forward to visiting this place for some time! So let me start with my eyes. the place was clean neat very pleasant. There was one person behind a counter helping a gentleman who was paying. So we took a seat at the counter and waited to be waited on, the young lady at register says "can I help you" being that it was about 20 feet away I assumed she would walk over to us, not what happened 😧 so I got up and went to her and ordered my food! The wait was roughly 20 minutes or so, during this time there was a tv on the wall playing music videos. good thing I wasn't with any children because the songs selected all of them had very bad language!!! I mean, if I were at a club or hanging wit the fellas it would hve been koo but not for any restaurant, my opinion.. also there was a door that closed the kitchen of from where we were every time it opend raggaetone was playing very loudly from kitchen😂 Ok now onto my food, it's hard because maybe it was the wrong time of evening, everyone could hve been tired from a rush, lack of employees no matter the food was bad! I'm really sorry but this review is in hopes of someone seeing it can make things better.. I can't possibly know what it takes to run a restaurant and I don't want to beat down this place I'd love to try it at different time of the day. There are so few of our restaurants out there. please please someone go and post your good views, I went on a Saturday night 7pm. The food was really delicious! The chicken was crisp and flavorful, the Mac and Cheese was scrumptious, the collard greens were savory and the cornbread was fluffy. The sides complimented the chicken well. My only issue is that the one side chicken plate (small) was $10 while the two side chicken plate (large) was $18. I understand inflation but that seems like it’s too steep. $10 seems like a great value meal while $18 seems like it’s overpriced. Just my two cents. The food was dry, ingredients were missing, burnt, and cold. Walked in and not a single employee greeted us. paid $43 for food that we could’ve made at home. Don’t waist your time or money here. So I went in at noon hoping my food would be fresh, nope 🙅🏽‍♀️ wrong. Not only was the collard greens crunchy (uncooked) & way to spicy but my pork chops were burnt but the mac& cheese was def had a taste of stateless. Like I didnt need a fork. Yes I didnt need a fork to much cheese with no flavor cause once the cheese got a like cold I could use my hands I could literally pick up w/my fingers the only thing that tasted good was the cornbread, even though u could def tell it was made some time last week. I should have read the reviews before I went that way I could have saved my money &went somewhere else. Never again hell my white friends could have done better. Never again that's 4 sure. Don't waste your time or money. And yes the music on the TV was inappropriate. Y does it seem like nobody these days has any respect for there business 🤔 nobody takes pride in their work SMH all day. I ordered a catfish dinner 9/29 and this is not my first time ordering catfish & this issue happening. The fish is not catfish whatsoever and it’s very disappointing that they pass it off as catfish thinking we won’t know the difference. Catfish has a fatty aspect to it which gives it the distinct taste. The fish they serve is completely lean & a bit dry probably swai fish. They probably do this to keep cost down but please be honest. I’ve considered ordering it & having it tested in a food lab because i don’t understand the lies. Also, the yam were extremely dark in color & tasted like dates & not candied yams. The only thing i enjoyed were the greens. Geegees needs to lower prices if food is going to be sub par. I write this review after patronizing several times & not making a quick judgement. Edit: I’m not assuming anything i know you’re either selling basa or striper which one (basa) legally can’t be called or label catfish in the United States and the other is a hybrid catfish which again isn’t authentic & both of Vietnam origin. Don’t worry i will have the fish tested in a lab then have WPRI report on it. You could’ve been gracious about it but instead continue to act like the consumer is wrong but soon enough you will see the outcome. Service Take out Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30
