I was fortunate enough to know the owner and watch the conversion of Flying Lobster from a local coffee bar to the intimate jazz club and wine bar that it's become. A couple of years ago the owner turned over management of the bar to his son, a professional jazz musician and it went through another transition. It's now become a first-rate jazz club. Joining an excellent selection of wines will be a new kitchen which has just been completed.
Feels like you’re coming back home when you walk thru the bar doors. Truly one of the greatest landmarks in Brooklyn. Amazing seafood and amazing drinks. Music every weekend and a perfect place to meet with friends after work!
I was lucky enough to live near the Flying Lobster Bar for a few years while I lived in New York. It was always a highlight of my week whenever I had the time to stop by for a beer while enjoying the live jazz being played. It's a bit small, so you learn everyone's names before too long and find yourself with more people to talk to with every visit. I'll be moving soon, and I really hope I can find another place like this one before too long.
"Flying Lobster" -
...Some call it a hidden "Gem".... some call it a “diamond in the rough,” I define it as a Phoenix Rising; atmosphere, fun and the right Vibes (pun intended) , these are some, if not the the many gems of Flying Lobster.
Upon entering you are welcomed by warmth and a transformation of sort, instantaneously traveling from, our current year, 2020, to the Jazz Era of 1920s and 30s, a time of music and like minds a set few could appreciate.
Here is a place where one can simply relax and enter a realm beyond another. Here, we can forget our everyday rat race, find our inner sanctum, appreciating the value of simplicity.... Simplicity in its simplest form.... the "Flying Lobster" if you have yet to be here... now is the TIME.
The Flying Lobster and next door restaurant Petite Crevette are hidden gems of NYC. Live music every Wed-Sunday, top notch wine and food. And the gracious staff. This is a must visit location, whether you’re a visitor of town or a neighborhood regular.
Who knew dining on the BQE could be so charming! This bonafide jazz bar is providing the good vibes with live music during the Covid times- a true rarity! Their sangria is bangin and they even have Croatian wines!
Got a chance to chat with the owner who is a warm, interesting and cool guy. There is a restaurant next door to the bar. It was a great dining experience with many awesome seafood selections.
The best of Brooklyn... Live jazz Saturday nights (and some others as well), and great atmosphere, Neil is an outstanding host, great malbec, absolutely perfect!
