This restaurant offers you to try good octopus, red snapper and fish tacos. Based on the visitors' opinions, waiters serve delicious coffee. Clients don't highly appreciate beer at El FARO. There is a magnificent view from this place. The efficient staff works hard, stays positive and makes this place great. Fast service is a strong point that plays a great role for the success of this spot. This restaurant provides meals for fair prices. The calm ambiance will be exactly just what you need after a long working day. But google users haven't given El FARO a high rating.

This used to be a great spot. We have been there several times over the last 17 years. The previous owners were great people. Unfortunately it is now a tourist trap. Overpriced everything and multiple extra bizarre surprise fees added on our bill at the end. They actually charged us a fee just for sitting at the table, even though we ordered food and drinks consistently all afternoon! Really crooked. We didn't bother to argue, we just wanted to leave. We won't go back to El Faro. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $900–1,000 Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2
I’m usually really good at getting pictures of establishments for reviews, but I failed miserably here. First off, I paid to just have a seat at this location. $60 for the day for 6 people. This included the use of wifi… we were never given credentials for wifi, but I don’t trust public wifi anyway so this didn’t matter. We ordered tacos and it was basically $5 per taco (WAY too much for a taco in Mexico) and the taco was very lackluster. They were advertised on the menu as coming with chips and salsa… which to me would mean a basket of chips and a 6 or 8 oz of salsa… there were 2 chips and a 2 oz portion cup, maybe half full of chopped tomatoes. Disgraceful and shady.. and not because they have umbrellas. The people at El Faro are fake and unkind. Beware the shuttle from port that drops you off literally in front of this restaurant. Waiters are standing there to scoop you up as soon as the shuttle arrives. The waiter talked us out of looking at their menu but saying he would get us one and then starting small talk. He instead offered to verbally describe meals.. we settled with chicken nachos. I have had better nachos from snack shacks at t-ball games. Cold black beans, chips tasteless and burnt, cheese sauce instead of actual cheese.. no salsa, no guacamole, no sour cream. My wife and I ordered 1 corona, 1 mojito, 1 coconut water, 2 water bottles, and the nachos. Our bill was $115. They did ask where we were from and California was probably an answer that contributed to our bill. Do not pay them this money. We took the waiter over to explain why the menu in front of the business said prices that didn’t match the receipt. They had no answers, said they didn’t make up the prices, yet literally doubled the price of every item. Beach is small and lame. Pretty water, but not worth a single penny. I ended up refusing to pay that bill and left them $50. I did contemplate not paying all together. Do not go here. Overpriced food and drinks. Definite tourist trap. Can't even go 1 minute without someone coming up and trying to sell you something. If you're in Costa Maya on a cruise ship, hang at the port. It's so much better. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $100–200 Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1
This place was horrible. They are scammers and thieves, they gave us a menu in pesos and charged us 16% for so called local taxes. We asked for a plate of fish with sides that was $25 according to them then when we got our final bill it ended up totaling at $168 (just that plate alone). The vendors would constantly be breathing down your neck not leaving you to relax. It was very uncomfortable and frustratung experience. Well, I can only say no so many times but if your okay to say no 100 plus times to multiple vendors during your relaxation time this is a spot for you! No need to waist any more time just go here and get harassed all day. The beach front of about 25 feet was well maintained all day, the waiter wasn't over our shoulders but for the money I count it as a life lesson to never go back. Should of got an excursion or stayed on the boat. Had a taxi scam going at the terminal as well but I'm unable to physically prove this company had anything to do with it so just beware traveler's try to stay away. 4 bucks each in a taxi to get there and 5 each to get back. They had a credit card machine when we got there but it broke while trying to relax.... so for a nominal 37 dollar fee at an ATM you can get cash! Weird, no thank you, and never again. Price per person $100–200
Tourist trap! DO NOT go to this place. They overcharge you for food and drinks! You’re better off going elsewhere. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Scammers, please go somewhere else. All reviews about scams are true. Stay away from William, he is the worst, he lied to us about weight of fish and lobster. He lied about everything
Excellent service. Manuel and Julian are amazing. They provided us a warm and joyful experience since the moment we parked near the beach. A++
Paid $20USD per person at the port, for chairs, umbrellas and beachside service. Once we went for a swim, they moved our charis into the sun and rammed a four person table next to us, with little space to even to get to our chairs, wish that was the worst of it, they offered up no menus and when paying charge double the going rate of all things ordered. Moved two doors down to the Krazy Lobster and there got chairs and shade for free, and paid half of this place. In summary, avoid at all costs.
