Would love to give this place a 5 star, but the charge to use a credit card was $30 on a $139 bill. I guess the tip was included, I took it that way, so no harm done. The Pastor tacos were the best. Drinks were also great. This restaurant is connected to the golf karts that we rented at the port. They followed me here and corralled me into this place so that I wouldn’t keep going anywhere else. I fell for it, I should have kept driving around since I paid for the all day golf kart. $120. Also, I should have took the taxi cab here for $4, $8 roundtrip instead of the $120, there really isn’t anywhere to go after this place, cause everything is walking distance. The water is clean and there is no big waves, the kids love it. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $900–1,000 Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes Guacamole
El capitán mono is an affordable beach club in the center of the malecón/boardwalk in Mahuhual. We got good service from Ivan. The food was good and affordable. They have sectioned off an area in the ocean so to keep the Sargasso away so the beach was pretty clean. There were absolutely no rough waves in this area. I was able to take my floating hammock and chill hours and hours in the ocean by the speech club. Our total for the day was around $40 usd.
Our taxi brought us to this incredible location when he learned that we were looking for beach, food, and WiFi. We were given a shaded table right on the beach that allowed us to enjoy the ocean and tapas at the same time. The tacos were the best I ever had and the nachos were gigantic! WiFi was free and the massages on spot were incredible. I will definitely be returning the next time I'm in Costa Maya.
food was amazing with big portions. Ivan was waiter and the locals suggested this place because it was cheaper and better food/service than big mama. They were right! Big mama was laying on massage table and many people hanging around. This place was more peaceful and enjoyable!
Very good service! Ivan was there with a drink, a menu... Anything! Great place laying right next to the water or in if you want! Massage on the beach.. 500mxn pesos.. So relaxing!

Would not recommend. Food was ok very expensive and got charged 8.00 tourists tax which they are not supposed to do Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
I recommend avoiding this restaurant. Our waiter attempted to rip us off with drink prices far above what they actually charge. Additionally this place was pretty dirty. Cigarettes were left on our table and the bathroom was in terrible condition (and that's from someone who expects it won't be great). Service Dine in
Had a horchata and beer. Service was great and fast. No mandatory tip, which is what we were afraid of. Loved the drinks and the atmosphere. Would definitely return. Service Dine in Meal type Other Price per person $1–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Food was ok and staff was friendly. My drink had little or no alcohol in it (rum and coke) But they brought a check with prices that were higher than on the menu and an added 'service charge'. Looking at other reviews (Yelp), this seems to be common for them. Look very closely at the bill.
Off the Carnival path, the beach is there you can use the amenities, the food was pretty good, they didn't speak good english, the local sales people hit you up every thirty seconds though, haggle, they do have some nice things.
