I’ve studied in the UK for 6 years and traveled the world for close to 50 years and have to declare this restaurant serves the best fish and chips I have tasted. The batter was crumbly and gave a nice crunch while not being oily. The fish was fresh and flaky. Dessert was a simple and gorgeous with the apple shortcake that was not too sweet. Definitely recommended when you’re in Taupo. Oh yes, the service is wonderful and friendly. Superb Kiwi welcome after a long day’s hike.

Food was delicious! I had the breakfast croissant and it was the best I’ve ever had. The bacon was crispy on the edges, fried egg cooked perfectly (you know when the yolk is over cooked & it’s dry - not like that) and a yummy chutney to lift the flavour. What topped it off for me was when it was heated they didn’t squash it like a pancake, the shape of the croissant was still in tact & it was lovely & flakey. It was so good I went back a second time for it! The service was also really good. Friendly, helpful and accomodating. I did take away so can’t comment on the atmosphere. So appreciate the service and kai served to my brother and I. The squid/salad dish was the best ive ever seen and tasted and the beef burger with bacon oozed with delicious, fulfilling flavours. Hats off to the very talented chef, your kai is impeccable. The service from all the staff is simply superb. Shot Double Shot Cafe!! Nice food, great coffee.... The waiter, however, leans across to collect dishes, when we only just finished. in front of people talking to us, cutting them off and saying nothing and being grumpy.
