This great coffee shop is right at the port as you get off the boat. It's upstairs and is accessed by stairs, if the door is open and you can see the stairs it means that David the owner is there but if the door's closed its worth knocking just in case. Good coffee and amazing hot chocolate and chocolate ice cream. Great place to sit, good view of the river and David is interesting and has a lot of local knowledge. Highly recommend you go there!
First of all the chocolate as well as the coffee is delicious at David’s shop! But is is the experience that puts sweet cherries on top of the 5 star rating. We loved David’s company. He is a botanist with a passion for the products he sells. David used local cacao beans to produce a lovely pure product. Most of all we liked how he showed us the production process in an intimate tour around his workshop. I never could have wished for a better way of getting to know how chocolate was made. P.s. (note for David) on our way back from San Juan we came through Castillo again but the shop was closed. We we’re looking forward to another cup and bar. We wish you all the best ❤️

DELICIOUS fresh coffee, and locally crafted dark chocolate bars. Lovely location upstairs, right next to the main boat dock, overlooking the Río San Juan. The proprietor, David, is delightful. I highly recommend you grab a cuppa coffee and a chocolate bar when you are in El Castillo! Also, the proprietor can connect you to a local tour guide who speaks pretty good English, German, and French, named Gustavo. We had a lovely morning tromping through the national Park, and Gustavo (a local) was an expert on the local flora and fauna, specifically he knew a lot about the medicinal uses of Forest products by the indigenous people.
Best chocolate I had in long time! Awesome coffee and hot chocolate too. Was there everyday. Have a great view over the river and the music he put is refreshing...

Such a lovely spot and place to chill and enjoy. The coffee was the best we had in nicaragua (even better then the ones on the coffee farms in Matagalpa! ) And the chocolate is sooo nice and its vegan *_* the owner is such a nice and friendly person, we really enjoyed talking to him. Wish you all the best and nice greetings
Best place (and host) in town. Not only his nice coffee and perfectly delicious hot chocolate make this shop the best in town. But especially David himself, the owner, is making this a place you want to come back to day after day. And we did! Don’t forget to try his chocolate bars! Hope to see you again David!
Hands down the best coffee and chocolate in town. David’s a great host and shared lots of stories about the history of El Castillo as well as coffee in Nicaragua. Beautiful views overlooking the port and river. A great experience, thanks David!

We had an awesome coffee and hot chocolate at David’s place. Most easily the best coffee I had in Nicaragua. If you also export to Germany in future, I will for sure order plenty. His bar is decorated beautifully by art from Solentiname. We went for the coffee region of Matagalpa afterwards and still no better coffee to be found. Cheers from Julian and Theresa.
Super great chocolate! Been enjoying this brand from the beginning and it continues to get more and more delicious with each harvest! The maker is a peach as well! Give it a try! Dark chocolate is just the bees knees and Dave’s is one of the BEST!
