Easily the best pizza place on the Tulum beach strip. A small cosy pizzeria with fresh ingredients.
They serve Italian pizzas with a thick fluffy outside crust. The cocktails are good as well but honestly the main winner is the pistachio tiramisu. A must order! We got it twice

This place was so good, we went there twice in one day! Tried the Brooklyn, margarita
and Ravello pizzas. My favorite was Brooklyn. Ravello has a white sauce and a bit more milder. Also tried their ricotta and spinach ravioli, which I think is a must!!!! It was incredibly soft and very clean. Their fennel salad was okay- thought something was missing but still good. Their desserts were very, very good. You HAVE to try the pistachio tiramisu!! Their in-house lemon limoncello is very refreshing as well.
The ambience was good- a bit smaller than some of the other places but there’s always seating available.
Service was excellent!! Didn’t have to wait too long for anything and the staff was friendly and genuinely happy.
Please go here at least once!

Checkpoint Ciao is the real deal! The food is to-die-for, and the owners are wonderful. They treated us like family - could be because I was born in the Naples, Italy area. But I think they would treat any and all the in the same way. We ate there twice on our most recent holiday trip to Tulum. Once on a lazy afternoon after searching for pizza nearby, and once on NYE. On our first visit, when we caught a glimpse of the Brooklyn pie, our eyes popped. When we had our first taste, our minds were blown. Just amazing. Beautiful airy dough with the deepest charing flavor from the Neapolitan brick oven. Sweet tomatoes and milky cheese with high-quality toppings. This clearly is a labor of love. Then came the Pistachio Tiramisu. As mentioned from a previous reviewer, it was phenomenal. If you love pistachios as much as I do, you will not regret the calories. The photos I've included are from our 2nd trip, where they graciously gave us a table on a very busy NYE just a couple of days in advance. Once again, they go above-and-beyond to make you feel special. This time we ordered the Margarita with burrata and prosciutto added. Nuts! We also ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese. OMG! Perfect silky fresh pasta with a 6-hour meat sauce. Could it get better? Well yes. They sent over another Pistachio Tiramisu and Limoncello - made on premises! But seriously, it doesn't get any better. Not in Tulum. Get over there on your next visit, and you will find yourself wanting to go back over and over again. Thank you Maurice and Lena for making our holiday trip most memorable. Best of luck for the future - I'm sure it will be bright if you keep delivering what we experienced! We'll see you on our next trip!!

Great atmosphere, loved the sourdough crust, thin pizza with a robust, homemade tomato sauce & thoughtfully, delicious ingredients. We watched the chef make our pizza! Friendly, helpful staff & the cocktails looked amazing.

Wow. I was blown away by this little restaurant. Every single dish down to the bread was incredible. The pistachio tiramisu might have been one of the best things I’ve eaten in my LIFE. 10/10 ambiance drinks food and music!

We showed up without a booking, on what appeared to be one of their busiest nights.
Mariana greeted us at the door and let us know they only had 4 pizza bases left. We sat quickly and were recommended some options. We quickly ordered before we missed out.
Mariana was friendly and helpful with her suggestions. She offered some wine tastings so we could select a bottle of wine with our meal.
The wood fired pizza bases were light/fluffy/tasty, allowing the flavors of the toppings to shine through.
We had a salad, which came recommended by Mariana. This was filled with delicious fresh tomato and cheese.
Feeling full, we were going to pass on dessert. Mariana suggested the pistachio tiramisu is worth a go. It was, it was amazing!
With our dessert, she brought out some complimentary limoncello.
Overall, service was lovely. The atmosphere was great and the food was delicious.

Outstanding pizza and drinks. Right next to Major beach club. Came back twice already.
I'm really picky with my pizza, this is by far the best one I've tried in years.

This is the most authentic and delicious pizza I’ve had outside of Italy. This was a complete surprise since we just ran into this restaurant randomly, it really does compare to the authentic woodfire oven pizza in Napoli and the best I had in Rome. If you want an amazing pizza with a perfect and incredibly flavorful sourdough dough, this is your place, and brace yourself! because unless you’ve had incredible pizza, this will be tough to beat!
The margherita with burrata was our favorite!

My girlfriend and I are finishing up a 2 week stay in tulum beach. If you would have told us that we would eat Italian food 3 times in that 2 weeks, we would have called you crazy. Let alone eating at the same Italian place. But checkpoint ciao is really something special. Amongst all of the touristy restaurants catering to weekend American visitors, selling overpriced, mediocre food, checkpoint ciao was a godsend.
The pizza is simply amazing. Right up there with the likes of da Michele in Naples. It’s not just a “good enough” pizzeria, it is actually one of the best Naples-style pizzas I have ever had.
The Tropea pizza was my favourite. My girlfriend loved the simple but classic pizza margherita.
We only had dessert on the last of our 3 visits, and we had the pistachio tiramisu. Again, it was amazing. It is not like any tiramisu you’ve ever had - that I promise.
All 3 visits we were served by the general manager, who name I unfortunately forget. But she was also amazing. Good, authentic service is hard to come by in tulum but she made us feel like we were eating among friends.
If you are in Tulum beach, you have to eat here. Sure, it’s not Mexican food, but it is definitely worth a visit for the tiramisu alone.
