We weren’t sure what to expect here as it was a late addition to our trip but so pleased we did. Charco is a relatively small hotel but with so many wonderful features. The outside patio/garden area overlooking the Rio de la Plata was a great surprise. Our room was delightful, nice sitting area and large bedroom space. A river view suite, we had a large balcony to watch the ferries go by. The food was outstanding, nice breakfast cooked to order while dinners were excellent. Reception staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.|If you go to BA, try to spend some time in Colonia. We had a surprisingly good visit to a vineyard, tasting truly excellent Uruguayan wines. |A wonderful surprise for us.

The hotel is a good example for a successful combination of modern design and historic building. For our 1-night stay we had a spacious suite with a comfortable bed and a stylish reading corner. The bathroom with white tiles and modern facilities looked nice, too, but was uncomfortably narrow. And it was as chilly as the room. Regrettably our fumbling with the A/C did not result in any temperature rise. It had in fact been raining cats and dogs all day long and - maybe due to the pouring rain - the bathroom also had an unpleasant smell.||We had a hot chocolate at cosy Charco Bistro in the afternoon to warm up a little bit looking at the ferries on the Rio de la Plata which quickly vanished in the rain... And we also had a nice dinner with langostinos, grilled fish and poke bowl and last but not least with a bottle of Tannat. Breakfast is served à la carte at the table with various choice.||The staff was most attentive and I would have been absolutely satisfied and prepared to give a full 5 point rating if it had not been for the chilliness and the smell. Maybe it was just bad luck due to the weather... At any rate I recommend a stay at the Charco. As for room tips - I would rather book a room with river view for another visit instead of the suite which needs to be passed by whoever enters the hotel.

We had a fantastic time at the Charco bistro this evening! All the staff were extremely attentive and the food was excellent. Thank you so much to Nicole especially. She was so warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I thoroughly recommend the Charco bistro !

We were traveling through Uruguay by car for 2 weeks and started our journey in Buenos Aires, from where we took the ferry across to Colonia. This is a route I can highly recommend, the ferry ride is convenient and very comfortable, luggage is checked in and customs formalities are dealt with much like at an airport. Colonia is a beautiful historic town, the oldest in Uruguay, and very worth a stopover. It is also an ideal starting point for traveling through Uruguay. There, I would highly recommend staying at the Charco Hotel - it is beautifully situated right by the ocean and within easy walking distance to the town center. The rooms are beautifully appointed, in our case with a large terrace and a separate sitting room. The restaurant is outstanding - if you chose not to stay at the hotel overnight, it is well worth visiting the restaurant for lunch or dinner. Service and food are impeccable, the setting is gorgeous!
Beautiful location by the riverside and tasty food! Make sure to make a booking before going as the salon is quite small and the waiting list is long!! Very happy we found this place! The staff was also very friendly and helpful! Beware that the food is not kid-friendly, since the menu has a lot of seafood.
View is very good, overall is nice, the pizza with. blue cheese, has no blue cheese or almost imperceptible, anybody that experienced blue cheese in the pizza would expect a distinctive flavour. Other dishes are very good, no pizza.

Charming hotel on 2 adjoining sites dripping in bougainvillea flowers and overlooking the estuary. Our room was huge and high ceilinged with 3 windows on the street (a bit noisy in day time but no problem at night). Well furnished and appointed, coffee machine (but no kettle). The old fashioned lock meant a little struggle with the key every time we were in or out, but we were only there one night. |Breakfast was served in the bistro at the back of the garden and was from a menu, not a buffet, (although there didn't appear to be any limitations on what you could order) and included fresh fruit and a cooked option.|Staff friendly and helpful. Towels are provided for the small but welcome pool.

Lovely light and comfortable rooms, very friendly staff and an excellent restaurant attached. The hotel is right in the old town so we could walk out onto the town during the day and up to the local lighthouse for the sunset in the evenings. Breakfast had a limited menu but enough for us.

A lovely small boutique hotel in quaint Colonia del Sacramento. It has a small pool and outside seating near it, which is great if you upgrade as then it is outside your room. Very good breakfast and lunch, with views over the river and good service.

Amazing dining experience, we have been traveling all over the country and this has been the best restaurant we have tried. Starting off with a fresh baked bag of bread and different selections of olive oil. As an appetizer we had the fresh burrata with strawberries, tomatoes, basil and some fired basil pieces similar to seaweed with a delicious balsamic vinaigrette and topped with roasted pistachios. Truly one of the best burrata preparations we have ever tried. The braised lamb picanha on a bed of mashed potatoes with roasted almonds, was delicious, the waiter let me know that it was a slow cooked dish that took between 6-8 hours to make. The star of the show for me was the dulce de leche lava cake, truly exceeded my expectations. The view of the river is beautiful and I would recommend booking dinner reservations for 8pm so you can watch the sunset! The location was wonderful, the service was great and the food was amazing!
