I have been eating here my entire life. It has always been great until today. I ordered extra slaw and it was Not placed on my sandwich the meat was ice cold straight out of the refrigerator and to top it all off My Bun Was Not Mashed Flat. Yes this is a must when you eat a sandwich from Black's. I understand there is a lot of new people working. But if this doesn't change, I see it going down hill fast. We've only been eating at Blacks for a little over a month but we have loved it up until today. We've been eating lunch there almost every day since it's close to work and has been good. I stopped by for dinner to go tonight. I called my order in at 6:45. Got there at 7:15. The door was locked. They unlocked it and let me in. We ordered $45 worth of food. That's a lot for this place as the prices are very fair. Everything but the fries were wrong. No slaw on the minced BBQ sandwich just bread and BBQ, left off something on all 4 burgers we ordered and 2 hot dogs were wrong. Fries were cold. To be clear, I've never had canned dog food.....but I have a great imagination.... Many locals told me Black's was the best bbq around town. I gave it a shot. Not what I was expecting. I ordered a simple bbq sandwich. I've had bbq all over the country over the last few decades, so I feel my opinion matters to an extent. What I was expecting: pulled or chopped SMOKED pork, maybe doused in vinegar sauce, maybe not. Fine chopped slaw, or long sliced slaw. A bun, maybe woth the inside buttered and toasted, maybe not. I am not picky by any means. I've had every combination of the different styles listed above, and some are better than others, but all are edible. What I received at Black's on 321. A smashed flat- burnt bun.....burnt on the OUTSIDE!!! maybe that why it's called Black's? Because the top of the sandwich bun will resemble a hockey puck. Inside the sandwich: borderline cold-well, to be fair it wasn't cold, but rather on step removed from luke warm- pork that was flavorless, no smoke flavor-no sauce flavors-vinegar or otherwise. On top of the cold pork was 'coleslaw', which calling that stuff coleslaw is an insult to the dish. The consistency of the slaw was somewhere between a puree and minced. It was atrocious. Thousands of people seem to love this place, so maybe I got it on a bad day, or maybe some items are better than others. I'm not a professional food critic, I'm just a regular man, so don't take my word for it. Go try it yourself. I'm not trying to be am A-hole. I am being truthful. Hopefully the owners will do whatever it takes to make good food to keep this place in business, bc if everyone had the same experience I had, this place would not stay in business. To be fair, I had bad experiences at RO's and Kyle Fletchers too. Imo, it seems like some of the employees at these places don't care at all.

"Barbecue"? They have a barbecue sandwich, which seems to be brisket pureed in a sauce on a hamburger bun, approximately the same consistency as tuna salad. Took about 30 minutes for our initial order to come out. They were not busy at all. Gave our food to the wrong table... after they opened our sandwiches the guy tried to take our food from them & bring it to us. Luckily the customer said NO, it's already been open. Servers were rude and smart mouth when the food was asked about. Not an apology 1 from staff. Customer tried apologizing repeatedly even though it wasn't his fault. Excellent food here! My favorite is the cheeseburger and the BLT. The food is very cheap, while have wonderful taste. The bread on the BLT is excellently made, not hard to bite but really crispy. The taste of bacon on the BLT is just excellent! During lunch time this place would be packed with cars. There is no dine in, you can only take out or you can eat it in your car. It took quite long for your food to come, but the taste is just excellent. The service is absolutely friendly. They do not accept credit cards so bring cash. Been eating eat for 50 years plus. Moved away over 35 years ago. When I come back every so often I have to go back. Love the food especially barbecue slaw.

Ok, so I have grown up in Gastonia, NC (not Charlotte like most people claim) and lived here, for most of my life. For folks like me, there is no better place to eat on a Saturday, or any weekday for that matter, than Black's BBQ. It's our very own "Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives" spot. The minced and sliced BBQ is phenomenal, the burgers are great (All The Way w/BBQ slaw (the slaw is a must have for the full experience)), the grilled chicken is a personal favorite for me & my wife, chuckwagons, fried Bologna, grilled cheese, fries, etc. Best thing is you get to wash it all down with Gastonia's finest pop, Cherry Lemon Sundrop. Made perfect using equal parts cheerwine and sundrop, then toss in a lemon. Get some. If you're ever in Gastonia, you must stop in and try Black's BBQ. You won't regret it. Enjoy.
