Barrister's at The Esquire Hotel Gastonia is an excellent restaurant in Gastonia that offers a unique dining experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a beautiful historic building, spacious patio, and free cornbread for the table. The service is great, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The menu has a variety of options, ranging from smoked trout dip to bbq sandwiches with squash casserole. The food is delicious, with dishes like fried green tomatoes and trout with butter beans and mushrooms. The side of collards is especially juicy, sweet, salty, and tangy. The drinks are also good, especially if you take the elevator up to the rooftop bar. Unfortunately, some dishes have been known to be overly salty or bland, and the portions can be small. However, the overall experience has been positive, and the staff is attentive and helpful. For those looking for a unique and enjoyable dining experience in Gastonia, Barrister's at The Esquire Hotel Gastonia is a great choice.

A gem of a restaurant! Highly recommend the pork chop with butternut grits and duck cacio e pepe dishes. The cornbread pudding dessert was so good and very generously sized. Food prices are pretty reasonable, especially for Restaurant Week Queen's Feast. Food alone was delicious. The service and staff made it an even more lovely experience. Ashley and Jennifer were awesome and so friendly! If you are doing Dry January, like we were, they were willing and enthusiastic to come up with some unique mocktail creations for us which were pretty good. We will definitely be back to try their actual cocktails and to try their other menu items. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Overall, this was a lovely dining experience. Wait staff were friendly, efficient and accommodating. Our party of 8 got a real feel for the restaurant. We enjoyed cocktails, appetizers, soup, salad, entrees and dessert. There were no long waits for courses, the food was perfection and portions generous. Our dinner group will definitely be returning. We were a party of eight tonight and every single one of us loved every item we ordered from wine flight, cocktails and micktails to the pear sorbet, chocolate chess pie and impossibly light cornbread, pecan and cranberry bread pudding. It was just their regular Saturday night, wonderful food and attentive, friendly service. I don’t know what the bill came to, but it was worth every penny. Can’t wait to go back! Food: 5 Service: 5

We just ate at this splendid restaurant for the first time as a part of Charlotte Restaurant Week, and we will certainly be back! We liked the unique and inviting atmosphere as well as the comfortable seating. Everything was first rate, from being paid attention to the moment we walked through the door, to a very thoughtful and attentive server, (Jordan, I believe) to the most delicious food, we’ve eaten in quite some time! The crispy Brussels sprouts are a must have and the pork chops over butternut grits are so delicious! Be sure to try the cornbread bread pudding. You won’t be disappointed! Wonderful experience all around. The service here is just wonderful, the people are kind-hearted and friendly. My mother and I made it in for dinner tonight just after 8 and the kitchen closed at 9, we let them know in advance that we would be ordering sandwiches to keep it quick and easy. Our server Angela was amazing she gave us top tier service and offered me a side of pickled onions with my Thanksgiving sandwich. And brought extra ice for our beverages, she thought of everything, and had a sparkling personality on top of her generosity. My mother is in wheelchair and the place was handicap friendly, we even checked out the roof top together after dinner and it was lovely. Can't wait to come back and try more wonderful eats. And the strawberry pepper jam brussel sprouts were my fav, they are a must try! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20
If I could give this place 0 stars I would.. I sat down for 45 minutes to a hour and never even gotten a drink. Everybody around was getting accommodated except for me. She sat me downstairs and there was already a waitress down there, she walked passed me a couple times with no acknowledgement till I saw they sent a waiter from the upstairs to serve me (he was African American and so am i) when the woman (of the opposite race) was already dish there serving and was no where near busy. My whole order was nothing but a cocktail and a salad, and I was there for 45 minutes and only Recieved plastic utensils. I’m new to the town and was trying to find a nice place to eat and came across this one as it was top rated, but I was totally ignored and can’t help but to feel profiled. What an unfortunate situation because I enjoy fine dining and would’ve been supporting the business a couple times per week, but just from this experience I will NEVER go back. I’ve washed my whole lunch being un acknowledged & now I don’t even have time to eat, sucks for me. I would love to know who the owner is.

This is a historic building which hosts a very warm, inviting and charming hotel. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The breakfast as well as its area and decor were pleasing to our palates! The rooftop and its view are simply amazing. Even though located downtown, you’re still within 10 minutes of lots of shopping. Please keep the following in mind though: Yes, the rooms (and shower) are very small. But they are beautifully decorated, and as cozy and romantic as we never expected. Perhaps due to the age of the hotel, the older windows let in a good bit of street noise. Closing the door to the bathroom will help, but if by chance the street sweeping machine and guy with a leaf blower come through between 6-7am, I hope you are a very deep sleeper…but I would stay here again.

They were open even on July 4th! Although they only served barbecue pork in plastic containers the food was still great and the view was amazing. Both the inside and the outside is stunning. The bathrooms and the whole restaurant is kept very clean. I just wish the bathroom doors were not sliding doors or that the lock was tightened so that one couldn't slide the door a bit when its locked. The waitres that was serving us was very friendly and made a great impression. Definitely will come back if I get the chance. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20

So, I’ll start with my personal view, 5 stars doesn’t mean flawless. The menu is elaborate but creates confusion around what type of dish you’re ordering. My wife thought she would be ordering a salad as that was what the item aligned itself with but was informed it was in fact a completely different item all together. This brings me to the staff, this was the most attentive and knowledgeable wait staff I have personally experienced even as $100 plus dining experiences go. Replacing silverware and refilling glasses in concert as a team. The food itself was good, we ordered a special and it felt that way. Well plated, and tasty. The Caesar salad is served as a sliced head which is lightly fire roasted. It looks fancy and has the smoky char you’d expect of being temporarily ablaze. The salad was a little too high society for my tastes. My NY strip was excellently cooked and the vegetable accompaniment with sauces and emulsions was delicious. And lastly, all this was while being in a truly splendidly appointed dining room. Marble floors and solid wood tables, high ceilings and grand windows. So while not perfect, it is certainly 5 stars.
