This cozy tavern recently changed owners but has retained its traditional character. Located in the narrow cobble-stone streets of the old Arab Quarter, the tavern serves simple food just one block away from Coimbra's noisy main pedestrian street. For dinner, we had the cheese and sausage plate. Afterward, we enjoyed a generous piece of chocolate cake with a glass of wine. We especially appreciated the friendly, welcoming atmosphere...

This is a simply incredible restaurant. Henrique single-handedly runs the entire location, preparing gorgeous food and casually switching between multiple languages. The prices are far lower than we expected for such excellent food and service. A phenomenal little place that I would recommend to anyone. Price per person €10–15 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
The ice cream is made in house with high quality ingredients and is super delicious. There are many interesting flavours you won't be able to find anywhere else. I highly recommend the dark chocolate. Very friendly staff. The place has tables outside where you can sit. Price per person €1–5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
This place has changed considerably in the past year, as the long time owners sold, but the experience is top-notch -- a great way to see and understand Coimbra. The atmosphere is friendly -- everyone seems to know everyone else -- a real neighborhood hangout, at least in January when we visited. The prices remain inexpensive, and our host/waiter/food-preparer spoke several languages and was enormously helpful and generous with his time.

Tasca da Emerlinda provides you maybe the best experience of a portuguese "tasca" (a small and pitoresque bar/café) in Coimbra. No decoration but the products to be consumed, local products and affordable prices. I strongly recommend the fire-roasted chouriço, the ham sandwich, olives and a local sliced cheese. To drink, try its local wine or the Ginja, a sour cherry liquour. It's owners are Mr. Carlos, a grumpy but good hearted old Man and Ms. Ermelinda, a very kind and intelligent old lady. It's definetely a non miss spot in Coimbra.
Great local spot to have a wine or beer :) something like small winery :) Cheap prices :)
Authentic, old-school tasca managed by the same couple (Ermelinda and her husband Carlos) for the last 43 years (I was told in a conversation with them). I believe the "attrezzo" in the bar has changed little since its origins: it's not only a typical Portuguese tasca, but also a living museum. If you can speak/understand Portuguese, the kind owners are themselves like a history book of the old town of Coimbra. The street will lose part of its charm when they (eventually) retire... If that was not enough to allure you, its prices will - you'll hardly find anything cheaper. Decent table wine (still served from the old wood barrels), beer bottles and good local cheese and olives. Simple lovely.
it was great time on new year, fantastic company, Henrique do a perfect service and make the place unique. 100% recommend

Sit outside, drink a few beers, enjoy conversation with the couple that owns this simple tasca, Carlos and Emiliano. Hidden gem to relax.
The pictures are not from the bar. They are very beautiful local people with great quality products. Wine recommended
