Alpino stands out as an excellent Italian fusion restaurant on the drive to Auckland or vise versa. The food here is fairly solid for what you can receive in the area with a strong tapas list. It fills regularly during lunch hours as many recognise it as a great point to stop during the trip, so finding a table may not be super reliable. If placed in Auckland, it would not fair with among the best Italian restaurant options, but in its unique circumstance it is a delight to stop at every time on my trips. Alpino is a gorgeous Italian restaurant in Cambridge. This bustling restaurant was full of people and chatter as soon as we walked in, we were greeted at the door, and the staff were nice and friendly. I ordered a Limoncello margarita, but sadly, I never got to try it as it never came, but everyone else at our table got their drinks and seemed to be happy. I didn't want to make a fuss. I ended up having a glass of wine, which my friend offered me from the bottle he ordered, so it was all good. The young man who took our orders was lovely and friendly. We ordered mozzarella balls and two pizzas. The pizzas were delicious, especially the prawn one. We loved the complimentary chilli oil they brought to the table, so yummy. We were so full from dinner that we didn't need dessert but we had such a lovely time and enjoyed our meal with friends. So glad we decided to have lunch at Alpino. We didn't have a booking but the waitress told us we could have a table. We are so glad she did, the food was delicious. Enjoyed every bite! Just wanted an Americano as the local cafes were shut. Wow. That was nice and different. Added some fries then a cup of tea. All really good. Great fast service. Something satisfying about sitting outside watching the world go by looking for another cell phone I don't need on the net. It's a Nothing phone 2. Always good. Although not on the menu ask for the old school pizza loaf. Just different but really nice with olive oil and balsamic dip. See my half eaten version 😁👍☕☕🚴🚴 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4

Food is very good and comparable with what you get in Auckland (which is reflected in the prices) and overseas. We had the ragout which was well done - very rustic style so you could see the pieces of carrots and celery. The pasta (which was fresh) was well made. We had the truffle pizza which was good. A hybrid Roma/Napoli style. The squid was really good and showed great technique as it was cooked just enough but not raw. So that was good. The kids bolognese was good too and they took out the tartness of the tomato sauce for kids so appreciated that. I would have given this 5 stars apart from the water glass which had visible lipstick on it - a little off putting. Hopefully this is a one off. We’ll be back again next time we are in Cambridge.
