My family and I randomly stumbled across Al Arz Bakery while walking through Jounieh, and given its lively atmosphere decided to give it a try. Upon ordering, one of the two bakers freshly stretched our dough, performatively throwing it to the secondary baker who applied a perfect ratio of zaatar and cheese and tossed it into the oven. Upon further questioning, we were informed that the oven had been continually running for 50 years, and that the zaatar was sourced from a store right next door. We also opted to share a spinach ftayer, and a few minutes later were presented with both piping hot from the oven. The manoushe was delicious, thin and expertly cooked, and the quality of zaatar and the cheese was apparent. I was equally a fan of the ftayer, slightly crisp and with a delicious acidity from the filling. Given Arz Bakery’s experience, quality and location in Jounieh’s old souk, I would not hesitate to revisit whenever I’m in the area.
Come for the delicious manakish (every aspect is excellent, from the dough to the fillings and the vegetables). Stay for the lively conversation with smiling staff and locals. I will forever be a fan of Furn Al-Arz Service Take out Meal type Breakfast Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
