I was in town visiting my daughter who is a student at Iowa State and she recommended Provisions. She dined here before for brunch and said it was amazing. So we came by for dinner, and I couldn’t have agreed more with her. Provisions is wonderful, the food was divine. I had the roasted red pepper soup and the house salad. My daughter had the baked brie and loved it. We also shared a piece of rich red velvet cake. The service was impeccable. Our server was on top of everything. I can’t wait to come back again. There’s not a lot of vegan options in Ames, it seems (excluding chains). Giving it a 4 stars based on that alone. I ordered online so that limited me to the vegan quinoa burger only (the only thing listed as vegan online) & the vegan blueberry cake. The burger was pretty okay - it could use some more toppings but the house salad was very blah. It was mixed greens/ lettuce with a couple sunflower seeds and they just gave me olive oil for a dressing. The vegan blueberry cake was worth it 😋 not too sweet & the blueberry jam filling was delightful! We decided to try out Provisions, and it was definitely worth it! 😄 For our drinks, we went with Peace Tree root beer and Back Pocket Gold Coin Helles – both were excellent choices. I opted for the weekend special, which was the beef brisket Mac and cheese. The mac 'n cheese on its own was quite plain, but when paired with the brisket, it delivered a delightful combination of flavors. My boyfriend enjoyed his Argentinian steak pizza. To wrap up our meal, we indulged in desserts – a raspberry passion fruit tart and an apple galette. The food was a solid 5/5, although our overall customer service experience was a 4/5, primarily because our waitress seemed less knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant looked cool from the outside. Old revamped brick building. The inside looked clean & sophisticated. Our waitress was sweet, but it must have been her first day. It's not her fault. Didn't check on us. We just ordered a pop a spicy Heidi & 2 appetizers. "Spicy Heidi" drink was tiny. It was okay. It was overpriced for what you got. A guy brought us our 2 appetizers, one of which wasn't the right one. He said he'd take it off our bill & bring us the correct one. We ordered the bread & potato thing. Can't remember what it was called. & the chips & dip was the one accidentally brought to us. Out of all the 3, that was the best one. Everything was bland. No taste. The chips with the dip had a little bit of taste. Bread was hard, no taste. It looked really neat, though! The potatoe things were cut up potatoes, deep fried with some crust on them. Bland. It seems like they use the same base for ALL of their dipping sauces, then just put different seasonings/spices in them. The base reminds me of the white cucumber sauce you put on gyros. Greatly enjoyed the food and atmosphere of Provisions Lot F. The bar staff was friendly and went above and beyond to answer my questions about gluten-free options for a to go order.
