Literally been to the New Mecca Cafe 40 plus times since 1976. My go-to meal is the stuffed peppers . Includes salad rice and beans, tortillas. Sauted peppers and onions 🌰 on top lightly battered super rich loaded with cheese. Best chili rellenos I've had anywhere. It's a huge meal and we normally make burritos with the leftovers & tortillas. Excellent complintary salsa & bean dip. The customer service was good. They kept checking in to ensure the drinks were topped off. The establishment was a bit dingy. The food lacked flavor. It was bland and not a true representation of Mexican food for sure. I've had more authentic Mexican food from Taco Bell. 🌮 the burrito is labeled as gisado, and what you get is chunks of chicken, onions, and bell peppers without sauce or anything to enhance the flavor. The food was just inconsistent. Some had little to no flavor while the tacos seemed to be salty.
Used to live down the street from New Mecca. Came back to the Bay Area from the east coast for a quick work project, and I made the drive from Fremont to Pittsburg because I remember the bean dip being that damn good. Probably passed dozens of other "good" mexican places on the 60-mile drive, but New Mecca is the place we remember most about Pitt. Totally worth the drive! I've been going here for over 30 years and while owners and staff have changed the food stays consistent and staff will make things right if things go wrong(long story short). I can always count on them for good authentic Mexican food. Try the cheese or chicken enchilada dinner with salad can't go wrong with that for starters. We just happened by and decided to get have a bite. I had nachos that were excellent! Having ordered a small plate, it was still a generous portion. I had to take the rest home to enjoy. My friend had a vegan burrito. Who knew that even existed. Glad there was an option! Thanks, New Mecca Cafe!
