Our first visit to the Federal Hill area and Maria Cucina did not disappoint. The place is lovely and tables are far enough apart that you feel like you have privacy for conversation at your table. The food was terrific…loved the beet salad and the olive oil cake was spectacular! All of the entrees were delicious. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. Our server, Nick, did a great job! Great food, especially if you choose Italian dishes. I really like the fried smelts and the pasta bolognese. On this visit, I had a salted cod salad special appetizer and the 14 oz steak. The salad was good, but it could have used some more dressing. The was crooked to a perfect temperature (medium rare). They were ok with me swapping out the potatoes for another vegetable. For dessert, I am really partial to the banana chocolate chip bread pudding or the lemon and olive oil cake. The service is perfect. They are attentive but not intrusive. The atmosphere is beautiful since this place occupies 2 floors of an old Victorian mansion. In the summer, the wrap around porch is decorated with flowers and tables where you can eat outside. Reservation was not made properly on their end so we waited an hour to sit. If that were my restaurant, there would have been something sent to the table. Food is always great but homemade desserts go a long way so... service was great (as always).. the chefs and the service keep this place on the map! Took my wife and family here for her 65th Birthday. Had a great time. It was nice because all the room was small and only had a few tables. Our server, LaLena was excellent. Friendly, considerate, very polite, engaging. The whole staff was fantastic. The food was superb. Everyone loved their meals. Definitely going to keep this mind. Great food, great service, interesting menu that was reasonably priced for the area/experience. They were one of the few places that were able to accommodate our large group on a Saturday night. I discovered this place while searching for a new dinner spot in Providence and wow did it pleasantly surprise me! The staff was kind and the food was just delicious! The setting was just wow, I did not expect it!! I had the Carbonara and it was just to my liking! I would definitely recommend this place!
