Walking into the restaurant was an experience to really kick off the night. Well the ambience and lighting really invite you into a warm, cozy space for a meal. My fiancé and I started off with the red pizza, it was a nice crispy flatbread with well, seasoned Italian sausage and pepperoni and the night the pizza sauce was so fresh tasting, and the color was beautiful. My fiancé had the chicken saltimbocca for his meal which was beyond divine. And I had the maltagliati dish with kind of a Bolognese a sauce, the pasta noodles are fresh made every day. We finished off with tiramisu for dessert and I have to say it was absolutely out of this world. I really enjoyed going to this restaurant. We will absolutely make the journey up to Traverse city for this restaurant alone in the summer!! I haven’t even left the restaurant yet as I write this Tonight, our top-notch server—Amalia— told us about the veal chop special (tomahawk style). The description was too good to not get. When I tell you it’s the best steak I’ve ever had, it is no exaggeration. For 12 years I haven’t been able to replicate the experience I had at a high end steakhouse— until tonight. This meal was an experience that felt like pure ecstasy. Each element of the plate, from the freshness of the jalapeños, to the spice of the broccoli florets, creamy perfection of the risotto, the stacked flavor in the marsala and finally the perfectly medium rare, crusted chop could have been their own headliner. All together, a symphony of flavor. Again I don’t write this lightly, this surpassed an experience I’ve been searching to even match. I could write a separate review for the short rib my girlfriend ordered as well. But in short— tender, flavorful but not overpowering, incredible. Thank you Amalia for the wonderful service. You’re accommodating, sweet, and extremely professional—, and withstanding my raving about this dish. There are not enough words to describe the experience we get at Stella whenever we come! My wife and were there last year for our anniversary and decided to go to Stella again this year during a small getaway with our friends. The place is located in a historical area and isn't obvious to the eye when you pull up, but it's absolutely a hidden gem. The service here is usually good. Though we had a hiccup with our reservation being cancelled and a manager not behaving properly and trying to correct the issue. Instead she made us feel like we are fools telling us that the reservation was "probably canceled by the ghosts" of that building. Inappropriate, impolite, and unprofessional. But it was last year and my 5 star review is for everything else at Stella. The waiters are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about what they serve. If you are unsure about what to get, just ask them! Their menu changes often and they serve local products only. Last year I got a wild boar chop there with smoked tomatoes and dumplings, and it was one of the most amazing meat cuts I ever had. This year they served a pork chop and I went for it. I knew I will be blown away by the flavor but not to that extent! This was the best and most proper pork chop ever cooked that I've tried! Everyone else in my party was blown away by their meals and it was a literal party for our taste buds! This place is super consistent and prides itself on hitting the flavor spot one every time! Even the pizza was extremely delicious and tasted gourmet! Also don't forget to try their cocktails and desserts! They deserve a special recognition! Amazing date night with my husband. Romantic atmosphere and exceptional service. We had a beautiful cheese plate, butternut squash ravioli and spaghetti. Each dish was perfect. We went for our 20th anniversary. It was the best food and drinks I've ever had and the staff was amazing. I cannot express how wonderful our anniversary was thanks to this and the chefs choice was amazing. I’m not sure I’ve ever gone so far as to call a restaurant “exquisite”, but trattoria stella absolutely is. the atmosphere is so unique; with warm, dim lighting and soft music and chatter. the hostess and waitstaff were amazing, and from the moment we walked in, we were treated like special guests. I’ve never had authentic italian quite like this. the portions are small, but enough to fill you up. the drinks were incredible, and the presentation of each component of our meal was beautiful. our server, katie, was polite, attentive, and very knowledgeable—she answered my various questions with ease and shared her recommendations with us. the timing of the meal was wonderful, with very short wait times. We dined here the night of our wedding. Absolute excellent service. Food was more than we expected. Very romantic. Best glass of wine I've ever had. Also, one of the best meals we ever had. My husband talked about it for weeks. Look forward to dining here on our next trip to traverse.
