This review is for The Tavern restaurant not the hotel. The food was excellent, all the dishes. The prices are not cheap but the portions are nice size, the quality of the food and flavor are excellent! Jeremy our waiter one of the best servers we’ve had at any restaurant! Dishes we had and would order again without hesitation: Uni Tostada Blue Fin Tuna Tartare Sweetbreads Pork Chop with roasted peppers Rockfish Chocolate Soufflé

This is a brand new resort, open less than a year when we stayed there. It is a nice place still suffering growing pains that affect the quality of a stay. The developers also cut a few corners that affect the quality of a stay. ||The rooms are spacious and well appointed, but the developers cut corners on sound insulation. We had a first floor room and listened to every footstep in the room above us. There were a few bits of the resort that simply had not been finished. For nstance the cable tv to all the machines in the fitness center had never been connected. Every time I asked about it the front desk staff pretended it was a surprise to the and they would “have somebody look into it immediately.” I would be much happier being told that they are still finishing up the details of the resort than being repeatedly lied to. ||Our other issue with the resort is that they have crammed too many units into the space available. Our unit came with a small patio with fire pit, surrounded by a nice privacy fence. Unfortunately there was another building 20 feet away whose upstairs windows looked directly down into our “private” patio. ||When they get all the small opening issues sorted out, this will be a nice place. But having stayed at other Auberge resorts, we would say that pre-construction choices have left this resort short of the usual Auberge standard.

It had been 37 years since I last dined at Mattei's Tavern Restaurant when I visited in late January 2024, and I was pleased to see that the years have been very good to the old haunt, which has been transformed from a historic stagecoach watering hole into an upscale boutique hotel and fine dining establishment. A recent convert to vegetarianism, I have to say, the meat selection looked remarkable, from the surf to the turf, but I was quite impressed with the chef's ability to put a new spin on classic vegetables and did not miss the meat at all. From the crispy cauliflower to the braised cabbage to the focaccia bread, everything was absolutely delicious and expertly prepared, plated, and served. Not only is the venue beautifully decorated, but the staff is warm and welcoming, from the hostess to the waiter to the chef herself, who kindly stopped by my wife’s and my booth to say hello and inquire about our meal. So, without a doubt, the next time I pass through Central California, I will be sure to stop in Mattei’s Tavern again. But, rest assured, I will make advance reservations for the old stage stop is quite popular now, and for good reason, as it’s a truly exceptional dining experience.
It was one of the best breakfasts I've had at a restaurant in a very long time. The service was fantastic, the coffee and mimosa were on point, and the food tasted delicious. They even have tasty gluten-free bread! 10 out of 10 highly recommend!!

This restaurant is for people who want decent food in a historic setting and don’t care about the price. For $80 you get a filet mignon (it wasn’t medium-rare as requested) with a teaspoon of gravy, a brick of scalloped potatoes (which looked funny but actually tasted amazing!) and a handful of snap peas. Funny enough, the kid’s meal (which was also served dead last) had the largest portion. Service was friendly but slow and unreliable (forgot our appetizer and a side order). It wasn’t bad at all, but the service & food just don’t live up to the expectations set by the price. Except the chocolate soufflé - that was amazing

Lovely stay. It was our first trip to the area and have had wonderful experiences at Auberge properties so we were excited to check this place out. And it did not disappoint. The rooms were super cozy, with our own patio and fire pit. The meals were amazing, the property is beautifully done, and the staff is helpful and nice. The property is also dog friendly which our chocolate lab absolutely loved! The only negative is the close proximity to a busy street but hopefully with some more trees planted, it’ll buffer out the sound and visibility of the cars. That said, the rooms were quiet. Can’t wait to visit again sometime.

Not sure what I was expecting, but this surpassed it all. Happy kids, happy dogs, and very happy adults hanging out around the lawns, sipping wine, playing toss- plenty of instagrammable (is that a word?) photo ops happening. Everyone was happy was the thing that stood out the most. I did a yoga class- the teacher, Kimberly (?) was amazing. The pool was beautiful. The room- yes, the best bedding and pillows (it is an Auberge...). However, the best part about the whole trip (besides the staff being over the top friendly- not a snooty attitude to be found anywhere) was the food. In the main building there are four separate places to dine (3 inside and one outside). I can't recommend the Huevos Rancheros for breakfast. One o those things I will have to make the 4+ hour drive for again. The chili in the bar was insane and no one makes a better blueberry muffin than I had in the breakfast room. (The chocolate croissants were impressive as well). You can walk around Los Olivos from this location to many local wine tasting rooms (and shopping). There is a wine tasting room on-site if you don't feel like leaving the property. I cannot wait to go back.

Had lunch here with a group of friends after Christmas and it was enjoyable. The ambience is warm and cozy, service is a tad slow however the staff are incredibly kind and accommodating. The kitchen messed up my husband's order (we ordered a BLTA but it didn't contain any bacon). My husband realized after he had eaten half the sandwich thinking that maybe the bacon was on the other half of the sandwich but there was none. We sent it back and the restaurant was kind to replace the entire entree and comp us for the item. Cocktails and cocktails are great. The fries are extremely tasty. I would come back and try out another meal here.

We were there for lunch today. Waited in the lobby for quite a while why the desk person chatted on the phone. The area that we were seated in had food under all of the tables and yesterday's napkin on the floor. The food was very good, the fries were wonderful. We enjoyed the atmoshpere and the Christmas decor. We will go back, but hope that it is a little cleaner next time
