My husband and I ate dinner one night and breakfast one morning because of the convenience of staying at one of the cottages at the Ranch. The Cottages were great, but this review is about the food. The food is incredibly bad. Buffet selections are limited, overcooked, mostly frozen reheated, and appear to be pre-packaged food. There is no service. You pay upfront and then go through the line. We learned after the first time and asked to look at the food before purchasing breakfast, it was maybe slightly better than dinner. It is expensive and I understand that it is hard to get fresh food in the desert. And I would have been fine paying the price if the food was edible. It just isn't. There is nothing there that contributes to ambiance, but it is the only place some nights and early mornings to eat before or after hiking. Take a lot of trail snacks. There are budget motels/hotels that serve better meals than this place. MUCH better! $23 gets you the privilege of a buffet stocked with powdered eggs, tissue paper bacon, suspect sausage patties, floor tile like waffles & French toast, orange juice that is only orange in color, weak coffee, and some fruit. You can't eat $23 worth of this food to justify the cost. On the other hand, it's the ONLY place to eat breakfast for almost 100 miles. My suggestion: buy food outside the park and eat that. DO NOT COME HERE. $36 per adult, $17 for kids. food is terrible, you may get $8 worth of food. This was a terrible experience. These guys know that there are no other options in town, so they put out terrible food and exploit people who don't know what they are providing until its too late. the foods that should have been moist were dry, and the foods that should have been dry, were wet. They charge $17 for kids and then provide zero options suitable for the average child. They had signs for hot dogs, but didn't have any out, seems like the easiest food to make, but alas, they had none and said they had no plans to make any that night. those and chicken strips would be the easiest things to make and provide for the $17 dollar entry price for kids. The rice was dry and overcooked, the fish filets were overcooked and looked like they were several days old. the Mac and cheese was like a horrible, watery cheesy soup (and I use the term 'cheesy' very loosely there was not likely more than half a cup of cheese across a five gallon batch. The deserts were terrible, dry cakes, flavorless cheesecakes that were also clearly several days old. very disappointed that anyone would allow such horrible service and food.
