Overall, pretty good! Our party of four had the crab cake appetizer, which was about average, along with the calamari. The calamari was also average compared to comparable establishments and consisted of rings and tentacles. Two of us split a Cesar salad which was good (and plenty for 2 people). Two of us shared the ribeye meal and the kitchen split it for us which was nice. The steak was cooked nicely and seemed to be a quality cut. Two others split the salmon and while underwhelming in size, it was cooked perfectly. This might be the second salmon I've ever tasted in a restaurant that was not overcooked. Delicious. We were celebrating a couple of birthdays so I asked if they had a cupcake or something special for these occasions. I think our server asked if we liked chocolate and everyone said yes. The next thing you know she delivers a three story cake (two layers of chocolate cake with a bottom layer of fudge brownie, covered in chocolate icing). OMG! DELICIOUS! Our service was above average. The server was quirky but fun and quite good once you kinda figured out that she runs the show. We've always had an above average experience at The Tavern and will surely return. Had the Reuben and it was VERY good. The other folks in our group seemed to enjoy their food, too. The place can be a little loud/busy at times, which makes it a challenge to just drop in and get a table or hang in the bar and chat. Fortunately, they do have two semi-private tables on either side of the front door that provide the opportunity to visit. Highly suggest reservations. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

The menu online is outdated. They do not have many of the items listed, and the do have items not listed on this menu. I had the grilled trout on fingerling potatoes, green beans and asparagus and it was very good. Great waiter! I asked for scallops and risotto and he said they hadn't served those for a very long time. Nice atmosphere. It seems to cater to the elderly, as this area of Leawood does. We loved restaurant week options. The atmosphere was relaxed upscale. Cheesecake was delicious with coffee. Wedge salad was fresh.
