I have found the greatest soul food restaurant of all time. If you haven't been to this unbelievable utopia of soul, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Let me tell ya the food has a soul of its own. The spices, the textures, and aromas are some that you will never forget. The atmosphere here is warm and inviting with the light sounds of jazz and soul music. There is not a TV in sight. The perfect lighting and colors soothe your mind, and the food feeds your soul. We had a wonderful waiter (James) whose energy and charisma were magnetic and charming (thank you, James, you made our night). The desserts were absolutely heavenly. Props go out to the fabulous chefs and staff that run this precious gem. We will definitely be visiting here again to heal our souls the next time we are back in town . Such delicious food. Good sized portions. I went during lunch, and the Mambo Chicken Sand was amazing. The bathrooms are really clean and the service was amazing, staff is so nice and willing to answer any questions we had. I will 100% come back when im back in town. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. I am a vegetarian so I did not find much to choose from besides one veggie patty burger. The okra fritters as an appetizer were a nice addition to the menu. As a vegetarian, I wouldn’t want to spend money on salads 🥗, I would like a proper meal. The burger was okay for my taste buds not mouthwatering nor bland. Although, my friends enjoyed their non-vegetarian meals. It was kind of an indifferent feeling for me towards the food. Very well executed modern take on southern cuisine. Wonderful!!!! From the setting, to the service, to the food, everything was amazing. For me, the best parts were the grits and the fried chicken: moist and well seasoned. For dessert, the bread pudding was rich and decadent. The service was good, our waitress was knowledgeable and kind and helpful. I love the atmosphere. I felt nice and relaxed. I would definitely return again. Another nice spot in downtown WS, the food is delicious and has a lot of soul. Love all the dishes with sweet potatoes, and food tasted amazing. Plus, the sweet tea is off the hook. If you are picky on your tea, then you know what I mean. //// 12.15.23 Update went back second time , food is still delicious, but a lil pricey 12$ for a chicken sandwich that doesn’t come with a side. Is starting to get a little close to the red line. And this time a week later I get a letter in the mail for a 45$ parking fee. Apparently their parking lot next door is paid parking required which I had no idea nor saw any signage. Staff needs to place a barcode or something plus inform customers if parking literally next to their restaurant costs. Definitely put a bad taste in my mouth with this place. A bummer, just another reason to honestly avoid downtown due to parking vultures :/ What went from a 85 dollar meal plus tip for 3 , ended up turning into a 135$ meal. The ambiance and atmosphere are upscale casual and intimate. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. I sat at the bar because I was in a hurry and it was full service. From the moment we sat down, Sam was fully ON! She conducted a wick assessment: is this your first time, she asked and from there, customized our experience by recommending starters, confirming our entree selection and even accepting the offer of bartenders choice for my drink. We had a late lunch today, at about 2 pm. the appetizer of fried green tomatoes and fried okra. #delicious and plenty to take home for later. He ordered cheese burger and fries, It is very hard to find good chicken wings, and my order was #perfectly fried. I always heard rave reviews , I never had the opportunity to visit until today. Every time I tried, it was packed. And now i know why. This is definitely one of my favorite Southern restaurants! My must have appetizers are the basket of fried green tomatoes and okra. I also love the the sweet potato cornbread and this time we tried the mac and cheese. It was so delicious! I ordered the shrimp and grits; the grits were some of the best I've ever had. The restaurant has a cool jazzy vibe that adds to a relaxing dining experience. There is always a wait and they do not take reservations so be prepared to wait, but the food and service will make it worth it! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner
