We arrived from Kona to spend a couple of nights in Hilo. We asked the people at the front desk about places to eat and one of the places was Ponds. So we went to Ponds and were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and we liked the atmosphere. We sat near a window overlooking their Koi pond and the fish. The staff was very friendly, professional and accommodating. I go out to have excellent food. All of our dishes were mediocre for the price. Our sides were sad. Veggies were hard and cold and mashed potatoes were dry. I get the same each time I come. So we just won't anymore. Drinks were tasty and love the atmosphere. Wait staff was awesome. The Food just doesn't excite me for the price I paid. I had the French dip for lunch. Excellent flavor. And the pineapple slaw was so delicious. Great atmosphere and the service was top notch. I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. I HAVE CELIAC DISEASE AND THIS RESTAURANT DELIVERED. The waiter was literally the most knowledgeable person ever and took so many precautions just for me. He gave me the salad as my side and I took that shrimp with mashed potato. As you can see in the photo I finished all of it in 2 seconds. It was so good. I highly suggest you visit this restaurant one time. Atmosphere was beautiful. There was a person singing. It was just great dining. Food was 'OK' but priced as high-end. Atmosphere on the water was good except windows in obvious need of cleaning. Our server hardly ever checked on us. The beer was ice cold and the food was good. The service was top notch and everyone was really helpful and friendly. I had the Ruben sandwich nice flavorful corned beef just wish the bread would hold up to the sandwich a bit more, little flimsy for the size of the sandwich. If you seen my other reviews you will know pasta must be al dente and this place nailed it. The fish was fresh and all n all a good experience. Wanna have good food and an ice cold beer. Nice place. Everything was good…..not great. I did enjoy my meal. The Cesear salad was good. I also had the seafood pasta……also good. The atmosphere was quite nice. A guy playing a guitar was very nice. My waiter did a great job. I loved seeing the Koi in the pond next to restaurant. I would come back. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
