Özkilis Kebap ve Lahmacun: Yearning for Its Glorious Past Once a celebrated establishment among Istanbul’s old-time eateries, Özkilis seems to have lost some of its original charm and the warm, sincere hospitality it was known for. This shift might be attributed to the overwhelming popularity and constant influx of patrons over the years. Despite its famed reputation, the kebaps and lahmacuns served nowadays don’t quite live up to the high praise they once garnered. Having visited the place on several occasions, I’ve consistently found both the service and the food to be lacking. The experience leaves much to be desired, failing to capture the essence of what once made Özkilis a beloved spot in Istanbul’s culinary scene. Honestly, Öz Kilis has delicious Lahmacun on its menu. You may choose their star and go for the Lahmacun with garlic (sarimsak) or get the regular Lahmacun (say normal; that will get you the proper meal. However, if you are up for discussions, I would argue strongly for Adana Kebap. According to my official taste officials, it was a blast! Best meat, perfectly made on the charcoal oven. Some prefer the open ayran (yogurt drink) but I advise you to choose water. Sits better in the stomach with the delicious taste, rather than sugary black water or yellow fizzle. It get's 5 stars for the lovely food. The lahmacun (turkish pizza was one of the best I ate in a long time. We had a side salad and smoked eggplant with yoghurt, delicious and refreshing. The service was okay. I think a little smile would go a long way. It was very very crowded, as wxpected because it is an old restaurant.
