I honestly was excited when I heard there was a Puerto Rican owned bar in VA and was let down when I visited yesterday. To summarize my experience if it weren’t for the Puerto Rican flags I wouldn’t have known it was a Puerto Rican owned bar. The music and food were below my expectation, however if you’re not Puerto Rican or never experienced Puerto Rican culture you’d probably like the bar. The long version: When I first walked into the bar I was confused hearing country music playing, they had touch tunes so I decided to play some Puerto Rican music myself. Puerto Ricans are very proud of their culture so it was a surprise to me that they didn’t have any Puerto Rican music. I asked for a Malta India and it was pretty warm but the waitress did offer me a cold glass though maybe I should have took it but who pours a Malta into a glass? I ordered the arroz con gandules with tostones and pork (I thought it was going to be pernil). Tostones were good and actually tasted legit served with the mayo ketchu. The arroz con gandules tasted bad like someone coughed on it and the pork was really salty to where it gave me a headache. Maybe it was an off day for them when I went but I’m unsure if I’d try them again, however if you’re not Puerto Rican or haven’t already experienced true Puerto Rican food/culture I think you’d enjoy this place. To me this felt more like a US territory than a Puerto Rican restaurant. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2
