Was in their function room (which is separated from the main dining area with a chainmail curtain) with a party of 12. The drinks were good, although I got one that required some fire, which ended with some burning embers on my lap and the table, which were then left there by the server. He was very friendly though! Once we ordered food, problems started. We decided to just do a bunch of tapas for the table over entrees. Each couple ordered 3-4 items. Some items came quick, some lingered, we got many items that we did not order and did not receive many items that we did. At one point even entrees that no one ordered came in. One couple repeated their order several times over about an hour, and only ended up getting one of their items at the very end. The bill was also incorrect. Luckily one of us went to the desk and they fixed it without any pushback. As we were getting up to leave, they came and gave us each a glass of champagne for the issues, definitely appreciated, but at least one person in our party does not drink. Food was pretty great, although even as tapas the portions were a bit small for the price. Between me and my girlfriend we got 4 dishes and left a little hungry, but our fifth never came out. Staff was friendly, and maybe we caught them on and an off night, but the amount of issues was pretty jarring. I had a disappointing experience at Matadora a couple of weeks ago. The staff dropped sauce and stained my jacket, and not only did they fail to apologize, but they also didn't remove the dish from the bill. I've tried to contact management and they said they would call me back but never did. To make matters worse, right before we left we saw a mouse scurrying around the restaurant adding an extra layer of unpleasantness to the situation. Easily a 5 star spot this far north of the city. Really unique vibe, almost feels like an outdoor patio so we love going in the winter and feeling a little bit like we’re outside on a warm night. Food is not all hits, some of the dishes are just meh, but some of them are also awesome. Really loved the beet salad, patatas bravas of course, street corn, and the short rib was incredible. Lots of hits. The drinks were super good too. Overall a wonderful atmosphere and an underrated and unexpected gem! The drinks were great. The food once we got it was delicious. The waitress was nice but kept being surprised we hadn’t gotten food yet once she remembered to check on us. Unfortunately the kitchen was very backed up and we weren’t told this before ordering. We got there a bit after 5:30 on a Sunday night and didn't get our food until after 7…at around 7:20. We wound up canceling one of our items that we ordered because it had been 20 minutes more and the kitchen hadn’t started it. I don't know what happened but we didn't take long to order and still the food took forever. These were tapas, some of them didn't require much prep We got out just before 8pm. The place wasn't packed and there were empty tables. We were also almost served someone else’s food. So great food, great drinks. A friendly waitress but everything took forever. She did apologize several times for the delay. Normally I’d expect an offer of a comp of something with service so bad that it took 2+ hours with no warning to be served but there was nothing of the sort here.
