All the visitors love gorgeous Italian cuisine at this restaurant. Taste perfectly cooked mushrooms, prawns and mushroom pizza. You will be offered good house wine or good beer. La Florentina is not your run of the mill pizza or Italian restaurant. Their unique menu options and wood roasted techniques definitely make this restaurant stand out. We have gone many times and continue to come back because of the quality of the food. The restaurant is in a more run-down location of Kingston, and the atmosphere is a bit dated and run down, but do not let that stop you from trying this place. Go for the food and you will not be disappointed. Warning the food is very good but it is also very salty, oily, and lots of garlic. There really is way too much of these ingredients, which causes it to taste amazing at first, but by the end, you wish they had used half the oil. I still love their food, but i also do not finish my serving. They do charge an extra fee if you use a credit card and the last time we went they were unable to serve alcohol which is a bit disappointing because their dishes will go great with a nice glass of wine. I've spent the better part of my life here in Kingston and New Paltz, but I have never tried LA Florentina until today. I was told about the wood fired brick oven pizza many times and had to finally try it. I will say, it was very good! I come to find out that the business has recently changed hands. It was pretty obvious from the brand new menus, tables and floors. However, I will say the walls could use a fresh look. From what I understand, the new owners have kept some of the original recipes from the previous owner. The pizza dough, in particular. It is very unique in that, it is unlike most ever other pizza dough you find in the area. It is very reminiscent of a naan flat bread. It is quite good! It was crispy and soft at the same time and could still hold up its shape when folded to eat like a real New Yorker does... :) The inside of the restaurant still feels like a pizzeria, and smells mildly of the wood fire, which I love. They are still in the beginning stages, so no alcohol just yet until the license comes through, but just grab a beer on your way home if you must....I did! A change in ownership! Same space and decor, same wood burning oven. A bigger menu, but alas, the variety is w/o surprises. Generous portions, careful quality, a bit too salty for me. But the sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, salads and main dishes are offered everywhere else in the area. Good, unimaginative, safe food!! It's not a judgement, but an opinion.
