I celebrated Texas Independence Day at the Gristmill yesterday by ordering the $18.88 T Bone steak dinner. I chose the mashed potatoes and green beans for my sides. My steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I didn't even consider steak sauce it was so good! The sides didn't disappoint either, especially the mashed potatoes and cream gravy. Makayla was my server and she exceeded my expectations by offering me a water to go. I eat at the Gristmill at least once a month and that was a first! She set the bar high and made my day. First time eating here! There was a mishap with our table, but they fixed it quickly! (Loved the customer service) Seth our waiter he was AWESOME. Drinks never got empty. The food was good my husband loved the onion rings, I loved the spinach dip I ended up ordering 2 that’s how good it was! (Make sure you try it) My burger wasn’t cooked all the way through they fixed that with the quickness & gave some of their fries to try (which were good) The bathrooms were a bit different, Overall we loved the restaurant. Great location in a wonderful small town. Yay good, terrific bloody Mary, and fantastic jalapeno poppers. Be warned though, the facility is not ADA friendly with many steps, closed doors, and uneven floors. Staff were young and some helped my elderly parents but others outright refused. We were here on a Saturday in mid-January about 1pm. The place was hopping. Atmosphere- huge fireplaces with real firewood going (it was in the 40’s). Haven’t been here in 20 years. Food was as I remembered it…AWESOME! Chicken Fried Steak with fries plus cold beer. Beautiful views. Would have liked less people but service was great & food came out quickly. Excellent service, great food, good wine, and the weather was awesome for outdoor seating. Bench seats were not agreeable with us old foggies. We had two entrees, giant shrimp perfectly fried and lightly seared tuna. These were accompanied by giant side portions of loaded mashed potatoes, wonderful green beans, cold slaw, and pinto beans. We followed with scrumptious strawberry cake even though we could not finish our main course. We could have easily split one entree and been completely satisfied. Excellent food and service. And lovely atmosphere. I had the fire roasted chicken and it was very moist and flavorful. My friend ordered the ribs and they said they were amazing, very tender and tasty. And the veggies… crisp tender and tasty. It’s rare that I give 5 stars to a restaurant but this place deserved it. Its location is perfect with the river right next to it and the trees surrounding the area. The service was fantastic, very knowledgeable of the menu/specials and very attentive. The food was delicious with good flavors. Would recommend the chopped steak and the green beans were so good.
