Upon entering Fischer Bakery in Mondorf, one is filled with that all-too-familiar hope: The sweet promise of fresh bread! Much like the optimism one feels when trying on a pair of jeans two sizes too small, sometimes reality just doesn't rise to the occasion.
Our multiple excursions to sample their wares, from Brötchen to Baguette, felt like a culinary equivalent of a mystery novel where the ending's...well, a tad disappointing. The Rosinenbrötchen leaned more towards the parched plains than plump vineyards. Dry? Perhaps we drew the short straw or maybe it was a day-old saga. Pastries, or "Teilchen" were far too sweet, like saccharine symphonies where the conductor had been given free rein with the sugar pot. Organic enthusiasts, brace yourselves: this bakery offers no solace.
But surely, the coffee would redeem? Sadly, it ventured into territories I would diplomatically label as "evoking the subtleties of a rather blandish blend".
As for the service: not overly friendly. Think of it as the weather in mid-November: you tolerate it, but it won't brighten your day.
In sum, if you reside in the vicinity, think of Fischer Bakery as that book on the shelf you have never quite gotten around to reading. And perhaps, it's okay to keep it that way.

Qualité de service à fuir de toute urgence. Refus de couper un streudel en deux car "ce n'est pas dans nos attributions, nous vous donnerons un couteau pour le faire vous même".
Prochaine étape ? Vous voulez un jus d'orange ? Prenez une orange et presser le vous même!

La prochaine fois j'irai a un distributeur automatique qui sera certainement plus cordial et professionnel ou chez un vrai boulanger indépendant qui saura prendre soin de ses clients.
