I have lived in Owensboro my whole life and have frequented Colbys on many many occasions. I am only writing this to bring awareness. I came to the restaurant and are crowded in with others waiting for our table to be ready. There is a small section to wait but many many open booths. Why cant we sit and wait at the table? Why must 20 individuals wait all standing when there are many more open tables than filled. Once seated we come to a table. I ask if we can sit at a booth, as again, there are literally 20+ open booths. The server is annoyed I can tell and explains the kitchen is short staffed. I dont follow how that connects to booths so I look confused. She then asks me if I have ever waited tables before and tries to explain to me for 5 mins why the booths cant be sit at (I still dont know why). She says she will ask the front of the house if its okay to find me a booth. I say no its fine, as I can tell she is really annoyed with my asking, she says no I insist. We are now able to get a booth. As we sit we see our new waitress come around and say “this is my area!” When she comes to us she looks visibly annoyed and stayed that way throughout the course of the meal. So while the food was good the rest of the experience was not. The seating situation needs to be addressed as well as the attitude of some of these employees. Hauntingly beautiful & true place of old world American Historic charm. If the goosebumps on your arms & the hairs on the back on your neck don’t invite you back- may the 7 Star Milkshakes beckon you instead. Family Friendly & classic nostalgic A MUST for sight seers or vacationers to passer throughs. A place to study or bring a book and sit at the giant windows upfront or tuck away in the back quarters next to the exposed brick & checkerboard shining floors. And YES! The Cafe in town is nice. I thought I would try the restaurant. Waitress was obnoxious and gas lighting. The Alfredo was the worst I have ever tasted. The food is just sub par coming from a commercial package and lying that it's home made. Butter is not real butter. Will never go back again. 5 of us went here to celebrate a birthday. This was a nice restaurant. Service was excellent. My wife and I had the Cajun Alfredo. It was OK but I think I'd try the lemon pepper Alfredo next time or something grilled. Everything else food wise we tried was excellent. Appetizers sides ect. Excellent service, the food was very good, good flavor at a good temperature, you can find individual or combo dishes 😋, variety of drinks, cocktails 🍸 and wines (excellent variety). This was the absolute highlight of our short visit to Owensboro. Such a nice group of people working here and the value for money is off the charts good. In a world where it seems like everyone is trying to rip you off and upcharge everything, this is a welcome oasis of great food and beverages that is virtually unmatched. I bought 4 drinks for myself and three others, and the bill was $16.50. See the photo I attached. We had a wonderful steak dinner with sides and plenty to eat, and for 2, the bill was under $50. Colby's is the place to go !! The Owensboro waterfront is very nice and worth a day trip or a short stay. Weather is beautiful in late September. What a gem in Owensboro, KY! The best local restaurant we found. High quality food and a reasonable price. Friendly and helpful staff including our waitress for two days in a row, Molly! This is a nice resteraunt that is good for a nicer causal lunch dinner or for a great romantic evening. The menu offered alot of potential bit I actually drooled when I read about the roast beef Manhatten with a mushroom demiglace. It was fantastic! The French dressing was a bit tangy but still good. John got a burger. He said they age the meat themselves,Howe er I don't know if that is true. He dis say best burger period. After dinner I got a molten chocolate cake with ice cream.
