Visited The Checkerboard for a late dinner on a weeknight. We were seated quickly and the staff was pleasant. We received our food quickly. Quality of the food was decent. We ordered the Onion Rings and Cheese Balls for an appetizer. We ordered a few pizzas, corn dogs and some chicken tenders. We left satisfied with the amount of food and took some "to-go" boxes with us. If we are in the area again, we may try this restaurant again, and try some other menu items. Gotta love the place. Decorated throughout with antiques from early settlers and Old West. Waitresses had cowboy hats and six guns. Had taco pizza and bacon cheeseburger pizza. Both very good. Menu had, sandwiches, appetizers, dinners, and salads as well. Service was fast and friendly. Well worth the stop. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Great food. Ordered onion rings, Rueban Sandwich w/ waffle fries and a pizza. Onion rings were homemade and served fresh with side of ranch. Were very delicious. We ordered 1/2 order which was more than enough for the three of us to share. Sandwich was typical Rueban but was good. Pizza was delicious. Thin crust with lots of toppings. Overall, excellent food and service was just as good. Worth the drive to Pleasantville. We love going to Checkboard! Staff is always so friendly, Karen is always a hoot. Sarah is our favorite waitress and always does a wonderful job! Food is amazing every single time! 10 out of 10 recommend stopping if you are in the area! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20

As I have said before, they changed the menu to pizza and sandwiches, but a very small selection of dinner choices. The table was so sticky to point of disgusting. Service was good and food was somewhat ok. I got a grilled chicken sandwich, which was dry and over cooked. I only ate the steak fries. My husband got the special, which was the ham steak and baked potato and dry. Hard dinner roll. The food depends on what you order to how good it is. They are known to have good homemade onion rings, but I can't eat very greasey food. OVERALL I DON'T REALLY LIKE TO EAT THERE BUT HUBBY CHOOSE TO EAT THERE . While our son was hunting deer 🦌 for the season… We decided to check out a restaurant we have been hearing amazing things about but hadn’t tried yet. DELICIOUS!!! So much to say about this place! The owner, Karen, stopped at our table…such a sweet lady! Nearly 48 years in business!! She mentioned her husband did all of the remodel and she takes pride in their unique decor! Also gave us a plate of their amazing onion rings! They are a MUST! Pizza crust is homemade and a nice crisp to it! It was PERFECT! Our sweetheart waitress, Bella, was so patient and helpful! Great employees and awesome pizza. Blueberry wine is great. The waitress is Kristen is great.
