We visited here for the first time for our anniversary. The atmosphere was perfect. Our meals were cooked to perfection. The highlight was the blueberry bread pudding! Best steak I’ve had in quite a while. The waiter was delightful and we had a wonderful experience. One person got the duck, and really enjoyed it and pretty much everybody else had various steaks that were all cooked Exactly like they ordered. There are two different kinds of mashed potatoes, one garlic, and one something else be aware of that some come as sides. One thing to know while it’s not a complaint but it was the first time in my dining history that I’ve had a 20% tip added to a party of five. It was great service and I added more but I really was surprised I’ve never had an automatic tip, added for anything less than a party of eight and, I just don’t recall it being 20%. I am done with this one. I was with a group of ladies. We suggested it because one was celebrating a birthday. First, this man schooled one of my colleagues on what an Arnold Palmer really consists of and this was interesting because there is a way to say or do anything. I ordered the pecan crusted redfish. I have redfish at other restaurants so I decided to try it at Char. First, there was no pecan crusted anything. The menu described the sauce as having shrimp and crawfish. None were present. I also did not envision the sauce being dark brown. It’s usually a red or peachy color. It did not taste good at all. I took one bite only. I informed our waiter who told me they may not comp it and that I could talk to the manager. I told him sure, I’ll talk to the manager. The chef comes out instead and says the manager was tied up. They decided I’d have to keep it. I then ordered bowl of gumbo. It was ok. I also told them it’s ok I know how to write a google review. Then I asked if the manager was now available to tell me himself about not taking this terrible dish back. He then comes and tells me that he will do it this time but they are not able to let people sample food. I’m like wow what a response but ok. Later we were going to eat the Bundt birthday cake that was brought in. The waiter said it would cost us $2.50 each for a saucer. He’d just taken our saucers from the bread we’d ordered and eaten there. Bread is not complimentary at Char. Some of us order 2 breads. I was one of them. We decided to eat the cake later somewhere else. Char you get a thumbs down for that too! Especially since I know someone who told me she ate there for her sister’s birthday and they decorated the table themselves. Customer service is important to me.
